Kentucky Afield Outdoors: Sept is Quota Hunt Application Month Options include deer, waterfowl and pheasant. Deer quota hunts in Green River Lake State Resort Park in December. By Lee McClellan Frankfort, KY - Apply for deer, waterfowl, pheasant and sandhill crane quota hunts offered by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources at state wildlife management areas and other public lands now through the end of September. Deer hunts offered include a shotgun-only, youth-mentor hunt at the West Kentucky Wildlife Management Area (WMA) Dec. 15-18. Several Kentucky state parks will host deer quota hunts as well, including the following:
Interested hunters can view the number of openings available for each hunt in the "Quota Hunts" section of the Kentucky Hunting and Trapping Guide. This publication is available wherever hunting licenses are sold or online at fw.ky.gov. Click the "Hunt" tab on the homepage and choose "Quota Hunts" from the dropdown menu. Upland bird hunters can apply for pheasant quota hunts, scheduled Nov. 16-18 at Green River Lake WMA, and Dec. 7-9 at both Clay WMA and Yellowbank WMA. Hunters may apply for waterfowl quota hunts at Ballard WMA and Sloughs WMA. There are new procedures for these hunts detailed under the Waterfowl Quota Hunts section. Maps of Slough WMA to help waterfowl quota hunters are available under the "Waterfowl Quota Hunts" section. Quota hunt drawing results will be available by early October. Hunters can see if they were selected by clicking onto the "My Profile" feature on the department's website. If results are not showing correctly, or an applicant does not have internet access, call the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Information Center at 1-800-858-1549 weekdays from 8amET to 4:30pmET.
