Richard Lee Walker: Truly a real Southern Gentleman!

Von Price writes:
No doubt about it! Everyone in Adair Ounty knows who Richard Lee Walker is for sure.

One thing about Richard, he never meets a stranger.

I have run into him on visits to Columbia and spoke to him, and always, he was very cordial. I am sure that he probably did not remember me, but he always makes you feel that it just made his day that he just happened to run into you.

Thank you, Richard, for always being so kind to my Mother and for taking care of the sale of her home for our family after her death. You are truly a real Southern Gentleman! - Von Price

Two Adair Co., KY Road Dept. Trucks stolen; one returned

Adair County Deputy B.J. Bray investigating. Truck theft unwelcome distraction as county is beginning busiest maintenance season. (No flood damage reported yet, but Deputy Bray was stopped on one 911 hang-up call by high waters in the Knifley Road area

By Ed Waggener

Two trucks were stolen from the Adair County Highway Department, apparently on Friday night-Saturday morning, March 15-16, 2013. Adair County Road Superintendent Jobe Darnell said that the theft was discovered when crews came to work this morning.

The two trucks were a 1999 Dodge, which was returned, badly damaged. "It must not have suited them," Mr. Darnell said.

Adair County Judge Ann Melton asked that citizens help with the recovery of the other truck. It was one of the best trucks in the fleet, she said. Supt. Darnell said that the truck is a 2006 Chevrolet Diesel Club Cab. "Somebody will probably find it hung up in a mud hole," he added and gave the county ID number for the truck as "No. 18." Information for Deputy Bray can be called in to The Adair County Sheriff's Office, the Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY, at 270-384-2776.

Tami, Thanks for writing. It was very tasty, and is best described as "Evan Style." The exact amounts are a closely guarded secret, but it involves some cumin, some curry powder, lots of garam masala, and a very healthy dose of ground cayenne pepper. --Pen

CACEDA special called meeting is over

Our contact at the CACEDA (Columbia/Adair County Economic Development Authority) reported at 8:51CT, Monday, March 18, 2013, that the session has ended and that he was told that a survey will be done in Green River Commerce Park to possibly combine plots for the project. The contact said that he is concerned about problems the prospective company has had in other locations over possible environmental issues.

As yet, there is no official comment from CACEDA on the nature of the business, though speculation rife in the community is that it is a support facility for the chicken growing industry. Jim Hadley, Chair of CACEDA said earlier that his group is taking a slow deliberate approach to the matter. "We are committed to getting jobs in Adair County," he said. - EW

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (March 18, 2013 7:04amCT) - A crash involving a tractor trailer with a load of lumber has pushed traffic down to one lane in each direction on Interstate 65 just north of Exit 48 at Park City.

It's Richard Lee Walker's birthday

If you know of a birthday we missed for today, for someone in Adair, Casey, Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe, Russell or Taylor Counties of KY, please send it using any Contact/Submit button - Now. We'll do our best to add it to the list.. - CM

One thing we know, today's Birthday List includes at least one famous person, famed for putting Louisville, KY, on the map by his own melodious renditions of the city's most famous claim to fame, for being the the home of the other famous Kentucky Patty Kindergarten Principal, Patty Hill (our own Patty Jones being the other) who wrote the words with her sister Mildred J. Hill in 1893. (All this is in the Wikipedia entry: Happy Birthday to You along with a whole lot more you need to read for yourself. Perhaps you'll recognize the name on today's list. Just in case you don't know him, you can reach him to wish him Happy Birthday at 270-384-3661. He's one of the all time great Adair Countians.

Anyway, almost everyone who reads CM checks the Birthdays every day. It's just part of a quick routine.

If you have a bit more time, you can see birthdays listed for two months at a time, at Birthdays and Anniversaries This Month repeated for the next month as well. This is the place to check to see if a birthday is already listed, if a change has not been made because of a divorce or death or change of name, for duplications - please tell us about those - and, most of all missing entries.

Once posted, entries are scheduled to repeat, year after year, as posted, until we are notified otherwise.

Birthdays are made possible by our advertisers. The longest running Birthdays advertiser is Joyce's Hallmark. We appreciate the support, and hope readers do as well, by dropping by on special occasions and letting them know. - CM

CM CLASSIFIED ADVERTISING: It simply works!

Whether it was the really super location Within Walking Distance of Lindsey Wilson College, the house itself, the rent rate, the fact that the ad included a photo (most rental ads don't), or the fact that the ad was briefly a featured ad on the front page of CM, or even the celebrity of Big Al Owens - whatever, Classified Rental Ad #11071 was posted and was successful in less than 1/2 a day - and is now retired. We received this letter from Big Al just 12 hours, 22 minutes after his initial submission:
