Another Civil War artifact Compiled by the estimable and most worthy JIM, also of brilliant intellect and a real good talker. -CM By JIM From the News, January 29, 1902: It will be remembered that the late Col. Frank Wolford, of this place, died leaving a number of war relics in the possession of his family. Among the selection is a pair of epaulets which were worn by Gen. Zollycoffer and which came into Col. Wolford's possession soon after the battle of Mill Springs. Maj. Whithorn, of Columbia, Tenn., hearing that the epaulets were here, has written the family, asking that they be turned over to Mrs. Octavia Zollycoffer Bond, a most worthy and estimable lady of Tennessee, who is a daughter of the dead Confederate General. Global Warming Request! incomer has weather question Click on headline for story plus photo(s) By Charles Marshburn I was wondering to whom I would address a global warming request this morning. It seems the Gadberry area was excluded! Pictures taken January 13, which was indeed a snow day! Charles Marshburn- Charles Marshbur Thanks, Charles Marshburn, you have come to the right place. Glad to help. We are well versed on the subject, don't even have to ask the Inventor of the Internet. What you are observing and will understand as you begin to settle in, is not a political statement, just the common Mt. McKinley -Siberian weather patterns high on Butterp'int Ridge/Gadberry/High Fairplay Folks who've lived here since the time of John the Baptist know that ski conditions are better every winter where you live, and on the Antioch Plateau, than anywhere else in Adair County. In Louisville, Von Price pays 150 for water each month! Says local utility deserves small increases, workers deserve support. "Working for the water company is not a cheesecake job," she says. By Von Price People. Whoever it concerns!Talk about a water bill; let me tell you a little about a water bill. In Louisville, KY, where I live, whatever the cost of water you use, you are charged the same amount for drainage. Everyone knows that in the Summer Time you water your lawn, wash your automobiles, and wash driveways off, and we all know that amount of water goes in the ground, but their thinking is that it goes into the drainage system. Editorial: The rate increase for water. We'll gladly pay it. Pennies a day for us and most customers. It's an investment in Our Future By Ed Waggener Wow! It looks as though the brouhaha over the rate increase by the Columbia/Adair Utilities District has fizzled its way out - and hopefully out of the history books. Marshall Loy summed it up best: How can you criticize, especially in public, an organization which is providing an essential service so well, which is growing and providing jobs, which has never asked for or taken a single dime of Adair County Fiscal Court money, has never defaulted on a payment, is solvent, has assets far exceeding its liabilities, which has a leader like Lenny Stone, and which is overseen and has always been overseen, by blue ribbon boards? That's a paraphrase of what he said. Mr. Loy has, perhaps, more knowledge of the district than anyone in the county. From what I've observed of its operation and the board's proceedings, I totally agree. And the real clincher, he said, was that rates in Columbia/Adair County are not only competitive, but well below those in so many other Utility Districts.
