Has both, but depends more on signs than GPS

Comments re article 44171 Columbian who travels sees need for good signage everyday

Cindi Alexander writes:
I could not agree more. Shamarie stated it well, I travel everyday across our beautiful Commonwealth, although I do have GPS and a map, I do rely more on road signs than modern technolgy. GPS is wonderful, but it is about once a week you will find yourself driving across the middle of a field according to your GPS. Without the standard road signs a person has to waste additional time asking for directions (if they will) when there could have been a sign posted and you could have been well on your way. -Cindi Alexander
Thanks. And you are absolutely correct. Eventually the GPS locations will be correct. As we understand it, Google is making corrections via Android phones much more simple. And, here in Columbia, the combined forces of City Hall and the Kentucky Highway Department are at work to bring maps up to date. This is a big deal for the local economy. We need both: Good signs, and correct mapping. The payback is so fast, it ought to have been done yesterday. -Ed Waggener

Supports better road signs

Mabel Rowan writes:
OK, if they don't cost too much, you just go ahead and pay for it. I do agree that signs on roads that you are currently on should have good signage and not make you circle the Columbia Square, before telling you to exit square on a road you went by earlier, such as the aforementioned KY 80. -Mabel Rowan

If we want tourists here, we need good signage

M.E. Lewis writes:
If someone has never been to Columbia before why should they know where to go to find KY 80?

It helps to have signs for those who are traveling. Even some of the people who live here could use some help some times going around the square.

If you want to have tourists here, help them navigate through the Square.

Surely signs don't cost that much.M.E. Lewis

Columbian who travels sees need for good signage everyday

Comments re photo 40245 Need a to East 80 sign on Public Square at Jamestown ST

Shamarie Claiborne writes:
Now that I travel everyday my feelings on this are real simple - We need a sign!I find my self some place new every week and sometimes twice a week I can't tell you how many times I would be lost without signs, even though I have a map and mapquest directions with me.

I do not have a GPS so I depend on signs to find my way around the state every day now.

My vote: Put up a sign! For those who are passing through it would be a great thing. For those of us who live here we know where KY East 80 is and where it goes but for many in the same shoes as I find myself in these days, it will help them find their way and get them where they are going in a more timely manner end of story. - Shamarie Claiborne
Well said. And just as using Street Numbers saves time and money and natural resources, good signage does saves time and money and natural resources. EW
