From broken home life to strong LWU graduate April 23, 2026 was Founders’ Day at Lindsey Wilson University (see the full report in the separate story today by Venus Popplewell), and this is the story shared by senior Leeshawn Johnson, one of two student speakers who put the spotlight on why the University makes such a difference in life. My mother hated the fact that he'd never attempted to retrieve me or even reach out to me until I was 11. From then on, I made attempts to try to live with my dad because my grandmother believed I needed a father figure - something that most black men lacked in past generations. Dr. Traci Pooler delivers Founders' Day message By Venus Popplewell Lindsey Wilson's name may have changed this past year, but its mission and identity remain unchanged - grounded in a commitment to "care for, mentor, and love our students." That was the message delivered by 2026 Lindsey Wilson Founders' Day Celebration keynote speaker, Dr. Traci Luckey '91 Pooler on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the university's Roberta D. "But those strategies only work because of the culture that came first." Dr. Pooler addressed supporters, faculty and students at the first Founders' Day Celebration since last spring when the Lindsey Wilson Board of Trustees unanimously voted to change the name of the 123-year-old institution from Lindsey Wilson College to Lindsey Wilson University.
