KAFC approves $250K loan in Green Co. From Madison Pergrem Cannon Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Agricultural Finance Corp. (KAFC) approved 19 agricultural loans totaling $4,112,135 for projects across the Commonwealth today at its monthly board meeting, including a $250,000 BFLP loan in Green County. Beginning Farmer Loan Program (BFLP) Thirteen Beginning Farmer loans totaling up to $2,732,135 were approved. Loan recipients were in Breckinridge ($90,750 and $202,400), Caldwell ($125,000), Fleming ($250,000), Graves ($250,000), Green ($250,000), Hickman ($249,280), Mercer ($152,000 and $250,000), Ohio ($250,000 and $250,000), Washington ($162,705), and Woodford ($250,000) counties. The BFLP is designed to assist individuals with some farming experience who desire to develop, expand, or buy into a farming operation. Beginning farmers may qualify for financing to purchase livestock, equipment, or agriculture facilities; to secure permanent working capital; for the purchase of farm real estate; or to invest in a partnership or LLC. Carol Perkins: Quilts for Heroes Previous Column: Hats make a grand day out By Carol Perkins Becky London is one of those rare individuals who has a vision and makes it a reality. Becky, the visionary behind Piecemakers' Quilts for Heroes, explained that the idea came to her after watching Veteran's Day programs featuring organizations that presented veterans with handmade quilts as a thank you for their service. Quilts of Valor was one of them. "I also watch lots of sewing shows," says Becky. "When she joined the local Piecemakers in 2018," said leader Candy Shirley, "she immediately presented us with the idea of making quilts for local veterans. By November that year, we began." When I asked Becky what inspired her, she recalled listening to her mother and grandmother talk about the boys who went off to war during World War II and how the families and community suffered. LWU Art Program Fall Market is Nov 19 By Duane Bonifer Members of the Lindsey Wilson University art program will give area residents a reason to get an early start on their Christmas shopping. The program will hold the inaugural Fall Market coming from 11amCT to 3pmCT on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, in the Norma and Glen Hodge Center for Discipleship. The purpose of the market is to encourage "insanely talented" Lindsey Wilson students to be entrepreneurial with their creations, according to LWU art instructor Karly Flynn '17. "The Fall Market is all about giving student entrepreneurs an opportunity to get themselves out there on campus and in the community," said Flynn, who is also coordinator of the university's art program. "This event is meant to show our students and community members that these student vendors are insanely talented." Goods to be sold at the Fall Market include baked goods, paintings, artwork prints, custom shoe designs and commissioned artwork. In addition to products by LWU students, the Fall Market will also feature area vendors who, Flynn said, "are passionate about what they do and want to support young people who are trying to make a name for themselves."
