Letter: Adding a birthday

Joe Feese writes:
I know that it is too late for today but, today (May 3) is Jamie (Cape) Feese's birthday. She is a native of Adair County and a wife and mother of two great children.
Joe, thanks for writing. It's late in the day, but we'll get it loaded in time to count, and that way it's all set for 2026 and beyond.

Kentucky Color: Aqua turquoise

By Billy Joe Fudge

One of the oddest and most beautiful colors found in nature is paraded on Eastern Red Cedar in late Winter and Spring. I call it aqua turquoise!

Eastern Red Cedar is a dioecious species, meaning the male and female reproductive flower parts are on separate trees. Both trees have cones.

The male has cones that hold the pollen and aren't very showy. These cones break open in late Winter or early Spring releasing the pollen which is carried on the wind to pollinate the more colorful cones found on the female trees.

These female cones appear to be closed which would mean that pollination has occurred and the seeds are developing inside these most beautiful berry-like cones.

Help prevent Human Trafficking Derby Weekend

Call 1-888-373-7888 or text 233733 to report suspected trafficking

First Lady Britainy Beshear and the Kentucky State Police (KSP) are raising awareness about human trafficking and educating the public on how to identify and report it. The First Lady said Kentuckians should stay alert and learn the warning signs, especially as Kentucky Derby weekend begins, bringing thousands of visitors and large crowds to the commonwealth.

Human trafficking involves the exploitation of individuals through force, fraud or coercion. As many as 24.9 million men, women and children are sold into prostitution, domestic servitude or other forced labor around the globe. KSP states that human trafficking becomes a higher concern surrounding large events due to the increase in both foot and vehicular traffic.
