Scam texts continue to threaten A new text scam - a threat if payment is not made for crossing the new Louisville toll bridge where they send invoices after you cross - is a lie. Don't click anything, just delete. Police warn that whether it's a mailed letter, email, text message, or phone call, the scammer will present an unexpected problem or situation and then offer a solution with a hefty price tag. Red flags and suspicious activity: Calls from local law enforcement stating an individual has fines for outstanding warrants. Calls from local law enforcement stating the court is holding the individual in contempt for failure to appear for jury duty. Calls from local law enforcement stating an Individual has been placed under a "gag order" and is not allowed to speak with anyone else regarding the matter. Calls from local law enforcement demanding you remain on the line until the bond" is paid. Requests for monetary gift cards (visa/green dot etc.) bank deposits, and voucher purchases to clear court fines or avoid jail time. Williams named KOA Young Optometrist of the Year Dr. Sarai Williams, optometrist, was named Young Optometrist of the Year at the Kentucky Optometric Association's 2025 Awards Ceremony held on April 11, 2025, at the KOA's Spring Conference held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and Central Bank Center in Lexington. The Young Optometrist of the Year award is given annually to a doctor who has been practicing less than 10 years and has made significant contributions and commitments to the optometric profession. Dr. Sarai Williams joined Downey Eye Clinic in Columbia, KY in 2019. Dr. Williams is from Casey County and currently resides in Columbia with her husband, Jordan and their son. Softball: Adair County Lady Indians update By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer The Adair County Lady Indians softball team currently sits at 4-5 on the season, after an 0-8 loss to Hart County on Friday, April 18, 2025. Since our last update on the team, they have defeated Campbellsville 5-1 on the road, fell to Marion County 0-10 in 5 innings, and lost a close one to Green County 10-11 in 9 innings. In the Campbellsville game, the Indians' pitching was impressive. Freshman Keylin Bergin pitched all 7 innings, throwing 84 pitches while only giving up 5 hits and one run. She also struck out two batters. Bergin and fellow freshman Allee Campbell led the way hitting for the Lady Indians, both having two hits on four at bats. Campbell posted a team high 3 RBIs. The team totaled 9 hits in the game with Callee White, Jade Waggener, Gracie Gist, Millie Brown, and Shelby Riley all contributing. The team is on the road to face the Taylor County Cardinals at 5pmCT on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, and then gets a rematch with Campbellsville on Wednesday at home, and Monroe County on Thursday also at home. Coleman and McCullough will be 2025 Rogers Scholars The Center for Rural Development has announced 104 rising high school juniors have been selected for 2025 Rogers Scholars, including Adair County students Gabe Coleman and Grace McCullough. The 2025 Rogers Scholars program will be held on the campuses of Morehead State University (June 15-20) and Lindsey Wilson College (July 13-18). The program provides leadership and scholarship opportunities for high school students within The Center's 45-county primary service area to develop their skills as the region's next generation of business and entrepreneurial leaders. Students from Southern and Eastern Kentucky - all rising high school juniors - have been selected by The Center for Rural Development to represent their home county as 2025 Rogers Scholars.
