ACSO: two arrested on burglary charges Adair County Sheriffs Deputies Gary Roy and Rick Eastham were dispatched to the 700 block of Free Union Rd. in the Sano Community of Adair County to a Burglary complaint. Deputies arrested following females: Judy Walters, age 55, of Russell Springs was charged with Burglary 2nd degree, Criminal trespass 1st degree, and Promoting contraband 1st degree. Sondra Lewallen, age 58, of Russell Springs was charged with Burglary 2nd degree, Criminal trespass 1st degree. Nora Jane Cook, 83, Green County, KY Nora Jane O'Banion Cook, daughter of the late James A. O'Banion and Othel Robertson O'Banion, was born on Tuesday, September 9, 1941 in Greensburg and departed this life on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 in Greensburg. She was 83 years and 7 months of age. She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of New Salem Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, loved sewing, and previously worked at Fruit of the Loom. RC Homemakers have exciting events coming up Sue Foley, President Russell County Extension Homemakers New things are on the horizon for the Russell County Extension Homemakers! This active group is always busy finding great ways to give back to the community, learn new things, enjoy fellowship and promote Russell County. Their newest venture involves taking on the organization of the Vendors Fair formerly ran by the Russell County BPW. Plans are underway for the next Vendors Fair event on April 26, 9am - 2pmCT at the Russell County Auditorium/Natatorium. The Homemakers are currently looking for vendors interested in setting up a booth. The booth spaces are $25 each, the same atmosphere, rules and cost will apply as when under the BPW. Area students selected for Gatton Academy Class of 2027 From Kari Lynn Somers Western Kentucky University The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky has selected 98 Kentucky sophomores for the Class of 2027, marking The Gatton Academy's 20th incoming class, including Adair County High School students Sophie M. Eaton and Ian Xander Benjamin Makranszky. "The members of The Gatton Academy Class of 2027 are outstanding students from across the state. They have demonstrated interest in STEM careers and are motivated to pursue the most advanced academic opportunities available in Kentucky," said the Director of The Gatton Academy, Dr. Lynette Breedlove. "We are so excited to launch them toward their infinite possibilities." Other area students selected for the Class of 2027 include Braylon Taylor from Casey County High School, Miley Constant from Green County High School, Sammy Brown from Russell County High School, and Ismail Gilani from Taylor County High School. Students from 47 counties make up the Class of 2027. Among the students accepted, this class represents the first student to enroll from Leslie County and students among the first five from Caldwell, Casey, Garrard, and Green Counties. Helen Barnett, 97, Taylor County, KY Helen Barnett of Campbellsville, daughter of the late Jodie Colvin and Sallie Tee Tandy Colvin, was born February 28, 1928 in Taylor County, Kentucky. She died at 4:14 A.M., Tuesday, April 8, 2025 in Campbellsville. Age: 97 She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Salem Baptist Church where she was Sunday School secretary for more than fifty years. Helen was a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville after twenty years of service.
