Carol Perkins: The Recipe

Previous Column: It never dawned on me

By Carol Perkins

I try to find new recipes to satisfy Guy's diabetic desire for sweets. From chocolate sugar-free pies to orange sugar-free pies to chocolate sugar-free cakes and a few sugar-free cookie recipes, he never goes without dessert.

Recently, I found a new one I couldn't wait to try. This one was more complicated than the others. I was making six small lava cakes.

Ag Tags: $10 donation benefits KY agriculture youth

From Madison Pergrem

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture Jonathan Shell is making rounds across the state as he visits with FFA members, 4-H members, and Kentucky County Clerks spreading the word about the Ag Tag Program.

Every year, when owners renew their farm license plates, or "ag tags," which depict the Kentucky Department of Agriculture's Kentucky Proud logo, along with the 4-H and FFA emblems, they can make a $10 donation. That money goes into a fund divided equally among Kentucky 4-H, Kentucky FFA, and the Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA) to support Kentucky's agriculture youth and other organizations and programs benefiting Kentucky's farm families.

Last year, donations to the Ag Tag program reached a record high of $931,201.81. From that total, each group received $310,400.60 to invest back into their communities for youth development and promotional programs.

LWC Swimming Duo earn national titles

Elkhart, IN - Maaike Broersma and Kirsten de Goede each claimed national championships for the Lindsey Wilson women's swimming team on day three of the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships.

Broersma claimed her second individual title of the week in the 100-yard backstroke as she finished over two seconds ahead of second place and two places ahead of teammate Natalia Gorska, who garners All-American status in the event for the first time in her career. Broersma's championship is the third of her Lindsey Wilson tenure in the 100-yard backstroke. She and Gorska are the only women's swimmers in school history to earn All-American honors in the race.

De Goede made NAIA history during the morning session, coasting in her preliminary heat of the 200-yard freestyle and clocking and national-record time of 1:47.34. Despite adding just over a second to her finals time later in the evening, de Goede still dominated from start to finish to win her first individual national championship and become the women's program's first ever national titlist in the 200-yard freestyle.

Letter: I-65 Spur

Bryan New writes:
A few decades ago it was going to be its own interstate or something like that. Then a number of years ago it was determined that it would be an I-65 spur. Yet nothing has really changed except some cosmetic differences. So who knows when it will actually ever be an official part of the United States interstate system?

TJRH named one of the Best Places to Work in KY

From Bart Logsdon

The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and the Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management recently announced that T.J. Regional Health has been named one of the 2025 Best Places to Work in Kentucky in the large-sized employer category. The selection process, managed by Workforce Research Group, is based on an assessment of each participating company's employee policies and procedures along with the results of an internal employee survey.

With approximately 1,400 employees, T.J. Regional Health was one of only 29 companies in Kentucky chosen as a Best Places to Work in the large category. While we have seen many changes throughout our 96-year history, one thing has remained constant; the commitment to ensure that our hospitals, outpatient services and clinics are the best places for patients to seek care, for our providers to practice, and for our team members to work.
