Power outages reported in Russell County

Our area is under a wind advisory Tuesday evening and Wednesday

Daniel Wilson reported from the Mobile Storm Alert Center, positioned south of Highway 76 in the Webb's Crossroads community, that over 1,400 residents in Russell County are currently without power.

The number of outages is expected to increase as gradient winds move through the area. Wind speeds are anticipated between 40 and 55 mph through the night in our seven county area plus across much of the the state.

Drivers of high-profile vehicles should exercise caution on roadways, being vigilant about the possibility of falling tree limbs due to strong winds.

Brockman's goal is to visit all national parks

By Josh Brockman

Amy and I love to travel. Our plan is to visit and hike all 63 national parks. Maybe one day when we get that done we will try traveling abroad more, but there are so many beautiful places God has created for us to see in the United States first.

Lucky for me Amy doesn't mind a good road trip and doesn't mind to swing in and pop a tent at a campground here and there. Not only do some of these campgrounds provide a lot more beautiful scenery than the hotels in the city's but it provides great launching points for outdoor adventures.

Vaping shown to have immediate negative health effects

New research presented recently at the Radiological Society of North America's annual conference showed that e-cigarette users experience immediate decreases in vascular function and oxygen levels whenever they vape -- even if their e-cigarette liquid does not contain nicotine.

According to CNN, people who used vapes with nicotine experienced the greatest reduction in vascular function, even compared to conventional cigarette smokers. Poor vascular function can lead to complications such as blood clots and stroke.

Basketball: Lady Indians 5th Region tournament recap

By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer

On Monday, March 3, 2025 the Adair County Lady Indians Varsity Basketball team lost to the Bardstown Lady Tigers 56-49 in the first round of the 5th Region tournament.

The Lady Indians fought throughout the game, leading early but falling behind by 2 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Tigers would lead by 5 at the half and 3 at the end of the third. The game was down to the wire, with both teams leading close to the end, but the Lady Tigers pulled ahead by 2 with under a minute to go. The Lady Indians were forced to foul Bardstown, but the Lady Tigers failed to make their free throws, missing the first pair, but proceded to get an offensive rebound, after which Adair was forced to foul Bardstown again. They once again missed both free throws, but got the offensive rebound. From that point on, the Lady Tigers had fairly firm control of the game.

Junior Kinzlee Akin led the scoring for Adair County with 13. She surpassed 1,000 career points early in this game, making her the newest member of the Lady Indians 1,000 Points Club. She was followed in scoring by Freshman Allee Campbell, who had 12 points. The team as a whole shot 41% from the floor and 26% from three point range.

Addie Bowman led the team in rebounds with 13, followed by Campbell with 7. Thanks to her performance, Campbell was named to the All Region Tournament Team.

The season may now be over for the 2024-2025 Lady Indians squad, but there should be much excitement about what is to come, as our current team will graduate just one senior player, and the Lady Indians should return four of five starters for next season. This year was hopefully just the beginning of the rise up the 5th Region ladder for Adair County Lady Indians Basketball.
