Basketball: Indians face Dragons at home on Tuesday

Schededule note: The Adair County Lady Indians road trip to Fort Knox on Tuesday February 11, 2025 has been canceled due to weather.

By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer

On Tuesday, February, 11, 2025, the Adair County Indians Boys Varsity Basketball team will be back on the court as they host the Warren Central Dragons (21-4) at home. The game is set for tip off at 7:30pmCT at John Burr Memorial Gymnasium, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY, and tickets can be purchased at hometownticketing.com.

The two teams last faced off in Summer Ball, where the Dragons were able to best the Indians. Adair County comes to this game off a 69-43 win over Barren County, while Warren Central comes off a 53-47 win against Warren East.

These teams share 4 mutual opponents. Warren Central has defeated Russell County, Barren County, Bowling Green, and Glasgow. The Indians have defeated all of those teams except Russell County, who got the better of Adair by a slim margin of 2 points. This matchup will be a tough one for both teams, and highly anticipated across the state.

50 years of raising trout at Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery

From Marsha Hart
Environmental Education/Outreach Specialist

Jamestown, KY - Fifty years ago.... the year is 1975. You might be doing "The Hustle" on the dancefloor, going to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show or Jaws in cinemas, and listening to Bohemian Rapsody by Queen. Microsoft is founded, the Rubik's Cube invented, and Muhammad Ali takes on Joe Frazier in the "Thrilla in Manila".

Why the reminiscing? Why 1975? Not mentioned above, 1975 is also the year that Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery started raising trout! For 50 years now, Wolf Creek NFH has been raising trout to stock in public fishing waters across the state of Kentucky. The first year, no stockings took place because it takes time for fish to grow, but Wolf Creek NFH began its distribution program with fingerling rainbow trout stockings in 1976. The catchable rainbow trout program began in 1977, when the first lot of fingerlings reached a suitable size. Initially, rainbow trout was the only species reared at Wolf Creek NFH. Today, we raise brown, brook and rainbow trout.

Fishing has always been one of America's leading forms of outdoor recreation. The primary responsibility of Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery, from 1975 to the present, is to raise trout which will help preserve this tradition for present as well as future generations of Americans.

Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery Visitor And Environmental Education Center is located at 50 Kendall Rd, Jamestown, KY. Hour and visitor information are available at www.fws.gov.

Eggs limited and remodel underway at Columbia Walmart

By Linda Waggener

It's hard to know which news is the biggest - eggs limited to two cartons per customer, or a parking lot filled with shipping crates and banners announcing big changes to our Walmart.

After news broke of the egg supply being affected by the loss of hens to bird flu, egg shelves were emptied overnight, requiring implementation of a limit of two cartons per customer. Current Grade A egg prices are at or above $8 for an 18-count.

A crate city occupies approximately a fourth of the parking spaces at the Columbia Walmart, filled with new shelving, paint, electrical supplies and more. The interior is getting a massive overhaul, already the Subway is closed to make room for the growing customer pick-up.
