Also called the sunshine vitamin, vitamin D is synthesized in the skin after exposure to ultraviolet B rays and is essential for calcium absorption and maintaining strong bones. Vitamin D deficiency can lead to weaker bones and is associated with a number of adverse effects including increased inflammation, increased risk of autoimmune disease, and decreased cognitive function. During the summer, most healthy people can produce sufficient vitamin D through a modest amount of sun exposure -- five to 10 minutes at midday for several days each week for people with fair skin, and longer periods for people with darker skin. Letter: Cemetery donations From Larry Burton My name is Larry Burton, son of Luther and Agnes Burton, from Burton Ridge of course. Almost all of my ancestry is buried at Bearwallow Cemetery. I donate $1,000 a year to keep my family's graves looking nice. Our cemeteries like Bearwallow work on donations. When you have a family member die, the funeral homes have a donation system that could help us keep our cemeteries looking neat and tidy. When you donate to plant a tree or other things that you will never see it is a good thing. However, if you would, donate to keep our cemeteries like Bearwallow or whichever your family may be in. You can observe the effects of your donation. My personal feeling is that our love for our families in life can be turned to respect for them after death. Keeping the homes of their earthly remains looking very nice is an honor for each of us. Hopefully some agree and help this cost. 2024-11-15 12:19:42 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

"The original framework of the grant has changed so that we can reach even more financially challenged, academically successful students - especially those from Appalachia," said Nissley who has worked with the grant for more than two years. "The Unlimited Pathways Scholarship is available to any need-based STEM student, up to the first semester of their junior year. The grant is also available to transfer students and part-time students." Students may qualify to receive up to $10,000 annually for four years, amounting to a potential total of $40,000 in educational funding per student. Furthermore, if a student's circumstances meet specific criteria, the NSF may extend the grant for a fifth year.
