Attention Adair County and Columbia Business Owners: The ACHS Junior Class Officers are excited to announce a fun and unique fundraiser for prom: The Prom Potty! Here's how it works:
  • A beautifully decorated and bedazzled toilet will be placed in your business's yard.
  • It's $25 for removal, $25 to send it to another business, and $100 for "insurance" to keep it from showing up at your location at all!

Betty Sue Hancock, 67, Cane Valley, KY (1957-2024)

Betty Sue Hancock of Cane Valley died on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Summit Manor Nursing Home. She was 67 years old.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30amCT on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Cane Valley Cemetery with Bro. Steve Pescosolido officiating. Burial will follow.

Visitation is requested after 4pmCT on Wednesday, and will continue on Thursday from 6amCT until 11amCT at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home.

Glen Akin, 83, Fairplay, KY (1941-2024)

Glen Akin of the Fairplay Community in Adair County passed away at his home on October 12, 2024. He was 83 years old.

The funeral service will be held at NoonCT on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Randy Parnell officiating. Burial will follow in the McClister Cemetery.

Visitation is requested from 4pmCT until 8pmCT on Tuesday at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home.

CWD positive deer confirmed at Breckenridge facility

Frankfort, KY - On Oct. 11, 2024, the National Veterinary Services Laboratory (NVSL) notified the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, Office of the State Veterinarian of a positive Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) test from a deceased deer at a deer farm in Breckinridge County. The farm, a participant in the state deer program, has been issued a quarantine restricting movement into or out of the facility, including live deer or deer products.

The Office of State Veterinarian is implementing the Chronic Wasting Disease Response Plan that was approved by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources in 2022.

KSP investigates Cumberland Co. assault

Burkesville, KY - On October 12, 2024 at approximately 12:34 A.M. CST, the Kentucky State Police (KSP) received a call from the Cumberland County 911 Center requesting investigative assistance with a stabbing that occurred on Cary Lane in the limits of Burkesville.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Dennis Spears, age 22 of Scottsville, and Timothy Alexander, age 42 of Burkesville, were involved in a physical altercation outside of a residence on Cary Lane. During the altercation, Mr. Spears armed himself with a knife and stabbed Mr. Alexander.

Mr. Alexander was transported by private vehicle to the Cumberland County Hospital and later flown to the University of Kentucky Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Shortly after the altercation, Mr. Spears remained outside of the residence and brandished the knife toward others at the residence. In an attempt to stop further threat, Austin White, age 25 of Burksville, struck Mr. Spears with a vehicle where the previous altercation had occurred. Mr. Spears was transported to TJ Samson Hospital where he was treated and released.

Fundraiser yard sale at Through the Fire Worship Center

There will be a yard sale from 8amCT to 1pmCT on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Through the Fire Worship Center inside fellowship hall and outside in parking lot.

Clothing all sizes (kids through adults), lots boys 2T-5T, ladies, men's pants 40 and 42. Home decor, exercise bike, craft supplies, jewelry, books, new curtains, Christmas items, kitchen and home decor items, games, toys & lots of misc items. Proceeds go to Youth Fund & activities. Swimming: LWC takes care of business at Midway Tri-Meet

Versailles, KY - The Lindsey Wilson women's swim team scored a huge head-to-head victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Indiana Wesleyan for the first time in program history as part of the Midway (KY) tri-meet.

The Blue Raiders women bested the Wildcats 135-111 and cruised past the homestanding Eagles 174-58.

The Lindsey Wilson men's swim team dominated Indiana Wesleyan and Midway to improve to 2-0 in dual meets. The Blue Raiders men rolled past the Eagles 186-43 and easily defeated the Wildcats 177-65.

Next on the docket for Lindsey Wilson's Swimming Teams is a highly-anticipated dual meet at Cumberlands (KY) beginning at 11amCT on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

Comer accepting applications for Military Academy nominations

Washington, DC - Congressman James Comer (R-KY) is accepting applications from individuals in Kentucky's First Congressional District wishing to attend one of the United States Military Academies. Each year, Congressman Comer has the privilege of nominating a limited number of applicants to four of the five service academies.

In addition to submitting an application to Congressman Comer's office, individuals are required to apply directly to their desired academies. The deadline to submit an application to Congressman Comer's office is Friday, October 25, 2024.

To apply for a Military Academy Nomination with Congressman Comer's office, interested individuals should visit https://comer.house.gov/military-academy-nominations and download the application. If you would like further information, please contact our Washington, D.C. office.

Columbia planning 4th annual Christmas Drive-through

The City of Columbia is in process of planning their fourth Christmas in the Park. This annual event has local businesses, individuals, and organizations putting up displays and holiday greetings. It will be held at the Joe Johnson Little League Park in Columbia.

If you would like to participate, please call the Mayor's Office at 270-384-6183. Leave your name and telephone number, and we will assign you a location.

CPD: Columbia woman charged with possession

The Columbia Police Department initiated a traffic stop on Jamestown Street early Monday morning, October 14, 2024. After gaining consent to search the vehicle, a passenger was found to be in possession of suspected narcotics and paraphernalia. Subject had additionally given officers a false name before being taken into custody.

The Trinity Church Food Pantry for the elderly (65 and older) and the disabled (receiving a disability check) of Adair County will be open from 9:30amCT to 10:30amCT on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

You may call the church Monday through Friday from 9amCT to NoonCT at 270-384-3259 to be put on the list. Calls will not be returned if messages are left outside of office hours.
