KSP investigates Cumberland Co. assault From Trooper Jonathan Houk Burkesville, KY - On October 12, 2024 at approximately 12:34 A.M. CST, the Kentucky State Police (KSP) received a call from the Cumberland County 911 Center requesting investigative assistance with a stabbing that occurred on Cary Lane in the limits of Burkesville. The preliminary investigation revealed that Dennis Spears, age 22 of Scottsville, and Timothy Alexander, age 42 of Burkesville, were involved in a physical altercation outside of a residence on Cary Lane. During the altercation, Mr. Spears armed himself with a knife and stabbed Mr. Alexander. Mr. Alexander was transported by private vehicle to the Cumberland County Hospital and later flown to the University of Kentucky Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Shortly after the altercation, Mr. Spears remained outside of the residence and brandished the knife toward others at the residence. In an attempt to stop further threat, Austin White, age 25 of Burksville, struck Mr. Spears with a vehicle where the previous altercation had occurred. Mr. Spears was transported to TJ Samson Hospital where he was treated and released. As a result of the preliminary investigation, Dennis Spears was arrested and charged with Assault 1st Degree. Mr. Spears was lodged in the Adair County Detention Center. The case remains under investigation by Detective James Ford. Detective Ford was assisted by other KSP Troopers, Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, and the Burkesville Police Department. This story was posted on 2024-10-14 14:02:59
