Drowning in Green River Lake State Park

Campbellsville Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a report of a person in distress in the water. Upon arrival, firefighters found that an approximately 69-year-old male subject was missing in the water and his vehicle was in the water also.

Upon arrival, firefighters began interviewing witnesses to get an approximate point last seen. Three public safety divers entered the water and began an immediate search for the subject.

Knifley's Giles House opens for 2024 season

The Giles Society welcomed visitors to the historic log home of authors Janice Holt and Henry Giles Saturday for the first public tour weekend of the summer season. The House will be open every Saturday and Sunday afternoon from 1-4pmCT through the season up to the fall celebration in October.

Our famous Adair County author, Janice Holt, was born in Arkansas in 1905. As a child she moved to Indian Territory (Oklahoma) where her father was a teacher. She grew up with books and music and became an accomplished young woman. When her first marriage ended, Janice and her daughter came to Louisville where Janice worked for the Dean of Presbyterian Seminary.

ACES special called SBDM Council meeting

Adair County Elementary School's School-Based Decision Making Council will have a special called meeting at 4:30pmCT on Monday, June 3, 2024, to review applications for open positions and determine teacher configuration for 2024-2025.

The meeting will be held in the Library of Adair County Elementary School, 870 Indian Dr, Columbia, KY, and is open to the public.

Community Blood Drive is June 5 at Chamber of Commerce

T.J. Health Columbia in conjunction with the American Red Cross will be hosting a community blood drive from NoonCT to 5pmCT on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at the Columbia Adair County Chamber of Commerce, 201 Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY.

KSP investigates fatal collision in Green County

GREENSBURG, KY - On May 31, 2024 at approximately 7:23 P.M. CST, Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 15 Troopers responded to a two-vehicle injury collision on West Buckner Hill Road in Green County.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Larry Waters, age 49 of Greensburg, was traveling west on West Buckner Hill Road in a 1990 Chevrolet Lumina when he approached a 2013 Jeep Wrangler traveling eastbound being operated by Justin Smith, age 30 of Greensburg. Mr. Waters' vehicle traveled left of center of the roadway as he approached Mr. Smith's vehicle. In an attempt to avoid a collision, Mr. Smith steered onto an earth embankment outside the right shoulder of the roadway however, the vehicles collided in a sideswipe manner. Mr. Smith's vehicle then overturned, ejecting the four occupants.

Myrtle Rexroat, 106, Russell County, KY (1917-2024)

Myrtle Christine Sharp Rexroat, of Rexroat Road, in Russell Springs, passed away peacefully, on Thursday evening, May 30, 2024, at her home. She was 106 years, 7 months, and 1 day of age.

She was born in Dunnville, on October 29, 1917, to the union of the late William T. and Flora Emerson Sharp Perryman. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Good Tidings Baptist Church. She was a hard worker throughout her life, having owned and operated a farm with her husband and being a well-known seamstress. She would make clothing for her family and neighbors, only using a Singer foot pedal sewing machine. If she didn't have a pattern for her sewing needs, she would make it. When Ms. Myrtle was in her 70's, she received her GED and later took college classes. She was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel, by Governor Matha Lane Collins.
