Internationally known guitar player at CU By Simon Baker, student news writer, Office of University Communications Rodrigo Rodriguez was born in a "musical family" in Quito, Ecuador, South America, and from an early age had a desire for music. Now, he performs globally, praising the Lord and sharing the Gospel through every song. He spoke recently at Campbellsville University during the university's weekly chapel service in Ransdell Chapel. Rodriguez started playing the guitar at nine, and at 12 years old, he recorded his first extended play. Cora Lee Bolin, 81, Russell County, KY (1942-2024) Cora Lee Bolin, of Jamestown, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024. She was 81 years of age. Born on September 25, 1942, in Creelsboro, she was a daughter of the late Rollin, Sr. and Irene Lawless Shearer. Cora Lee was a retired kindergarten aide for the Russell County Board of Education and a member of the Jamestown Church of the Nazarene. She deeply loved her family and being involved in her grandchildren's activities throughout their childhood. Cora Lee loved to travel, especially vacationing at the beach. Boyce Simpson, 86, Green County, KY (1938-2024) Boyce Simpson of Greensburg, Kentucky, son of the late Ogden and Margarette Wooldridge Simpson was born on February 12, 1938 in Green County, Kentucky. He departed this life on Saturday, March 23, 2024 having attained the age of 86 years, one month and 11 days. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Greensburg Baptist Church. He retired from Ingersoll Rand, was an avid fisherman and a member of the Greensburg Masonic Lodge #54 F&AM. KELC releases February 2024 Unemployment Report From Mike Clark/Kim Saylor Brannock Frankfort, KY - Kentucky's seasonally adjusted preliminary February 2024 unemployment rate was 4.4%, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency within the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet. The preliminary February 2024 jobless rate was up 0.1 percentage points from January 2024 and up 0.4 percentage point from one year ago. The U.S. seasonally adjusted jobless rate for February 2024 was 3.9%, which was also up from the 3.7% recorded for January 2024, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Wind advisory issued for Monday evening The National Weather Service in Louisville, KY, issued a Wind Advisory at 4:01amCT on Monday, March 25, 2024, for portions of central Kentucky includinding Adair County and most of the surrounding area. This Wind Advisory will be in effect from 7pmCT this evening until 5pmCT on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. Plan to use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle, and to secure outdoor objects. In addition, the wind combined with low relative humidity will result in an increased risk for fire spread. Afternoon relative humidities will be around 20 percent in east-central Kentucky, and winds from the south will be 10 to 20 mph. Occasional higher gusts are expected throughout the region. Proud of ACHS boys basketball team in state's Elite 8 By Trey Stephens ACHS Sports Writer for Columbia Magazine The Adair County Indians fell to Lyon County 80-65 in the quarterfinals of the UK HealthCare KHSAA Boy's Sweet 16 state tournament Friday. The team had an incredible run, the best for Adair County since 2007. Despite the loss, the team and head coach Breeze were in good sprits being thankful for the fan support plus being excited to run it back next year with the return of nearly the entire team. This team is something all of Adair County can be proud of, our team finished as one of the 8 best teams in the state of Kentucky. Fire reported at Campbellsville laundry mat By Chris Taylor, Chief Executive Director Fire-Rescue-EMS Campbellsville Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a report of a working dryer fire in a laundry mat at 206 Nancy Cox Drive. Upon arrival, firefighters found moderate smoke coming from the structure and flames coming from the dryer with extension to the walls. Firefighters extinguished the fire, searched for occupants and provided overhaul. The cause of the fire is related to a commercial dryer.
