KSP makes arrests in Columbia and Breeding 1-10-2024 -- Robby Lovins, age 50, of Columbia was arrested by KSP Trooper Wilson, just after 3 yesterday afternoon. Lovin's was charged with Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration (1st Offense). He was lodged in the Russell County Detention Center. Parita Thompson, age 31, of Columbia, was arrested by Deputy Thomas with the Adair County Sheriff's Office, just before 2:30 yesterday afternoon. Thompson was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree, 1st Offense (Meth), Wanton Endangerment - 1st Degree and Drug Paraphernalia - Buy/Possession. Deborah Courtney, age 59, of the Breeding Community was arrested by KSP Trooper Wilson, just after 1 yesterday afternoon. Courtney, was charged with Rape, 1st Degree, Sexual Abuse, 1st Degree, Victim under 12 years of Age, Criminal Abuse 1st Degree - Child 12 or Under and Sexual Abuse, 1st Degree. Kyle Zornes at Longhunter's Tavern on Friday Come see native Adair County son, Kyle Zornes, singer/songwriter, as he showcases his original songs on both guitar and keyboard as well as a few covers from 7pmCT to 9:30pmCT this Friday, January 12, 2024, at Longhunter's Tavern on the Square in Greensburg. Deadline for GSA applications is Jan 14 Interested students can learn more and apply at www.kentuckygsa.org From Tim Lawson The Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts (GSA) is now accepting applications for the class of 2024. Since its inception, the tuition-free immersive arts education program has cultivated more than 8,000 student-artists from across the state, including a Grammy-Award winning vocalist, Tony-nominated actor, Kentucky Youth Poet Laureate and numerous creative leaders and engaged citizens. Each summer GSA hosts talented high school students from every region of the commonwealth for a three-week, tuition-free immersive residential program on a college campus. During the program, student artists engage in studies across nine art disciplines: Creative Writing, Dance, Design, Drama, Film + Photography, Instrumental Music, Musical Theatre, Visual Art and Vocal Music. This year's program will be held in two sessions at the University of Kentucky campus in Lexington, Ky, serving over 500 students. Acceptance to the GSA program is competitive. The application does not ask for GPA or SAT/ACT scores, instead applicants are scored on their creative potential and passion. Active weather pattern through next week From Mike Keltner, Director Adair Co. Emergency Management The National Weather Service is advising that a very active weather pattern will unfold starting on Friday and continuing into next week. To start, a strong storm system will impact the region on Friday, bringing gusty winds and the potential for snow on the backside of the system late Friday into early Saturday. Another storm system will take aim at the region as early as Sunday and may bring accumulating snow. Taxes starting in 2024 in Adair County By Makayla M. Wright Sheila Blair is the new Adair County Occupational Tax Director effective January 1, 2024. Also as of January 1, 2024 the Adair County community has a 0.50% tax on employees' gross earnings on all employers who issue W2 tax forms. In addition to this, anyone conducting business must purchase a business license for $50 by March 1, 2024 and after January 31st of each consecutive year. Information forms have been mailed to businesses and individuals who apply. Jobs news - Pennyroyal expands plans for GRCP The Pennyroyal Barrel Company, locating in the Green River Commerce Park, has announced it is transitioning to Pennyroyal Distillery. The development, originally introduced in July of 2023, was to be an $8.5 million investment on 40-acres in the GRCP. Pennyroyal Distillery, with a new legendary partner, now expands that footprint to an approximate $25 million investment on 60-acres, adding a distillery building centered around a 32" copper column still.
