Here is a list of those who served as Sheriff of Adair County from the formation in 1801/02 through 2000. Some who served as deputies are also included, but that list is far from complete. Part one of a series: Benjamin Bowmar appointed by Gov. James Garrard, May 1802; served a two-year term; deputy James Vaughan, appointed August 1802. List continues... Nathan Montgomery, May 1804; Robert Trabue, April 1806; Daniel Trabue, April 1808 with Robert Trabue as deputy; William Burbridge, April 1810, with Benjamin Bowmar and Willis Stapp as deputies; Robert Thomas, April 1812, with Benjamin Selby and Robert Trabue as deputies. Robert Trabue, April 1814, with John Wilson as deputy; Hugh French, Sr., April 1816, with Berryman Holt and Hugh French, Jr. as deputies; Nathan Montgomery, January 1819, with Isaac Snodgrass and Robert Powell, Jr. as deputies. Herbert Green Waggener, January 1821, with Robert Powell, Jr., Alexander Waggener and Albert Waggener as deputies; John Grissom, January 1823, with William L. Patterson as deputy. William Patterson, January 1825, deputies included William S. Patterson, Robert Caskey, Sanders W. Campbell, Nathaniel Judd, John Pile, Hiram Rowe. Patterson resigned as sheriff on 2 January 1826.
