Gus Allen, Jr, 82, Green County, KY (1941-2023) Ruel Augustus "Gus" Allen, Jr. of Summersville, Kentucky, son of the late Ruel A. Allen, Sr. and Theresa Druin Allen, was born on Friday, April 11, 1941 in Larue County and departed this life on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at his home. He was 82 years, 6 months, and 27 days of age. He made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Mount Tabor Baptist Church but attended Summersville Church of the Nazarene the last 53 years. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army from 1963 until 1969. He was retired civil service boiler operator at Fort Knox and was a farmer. 12th annual Coats for Kids Drive underway From Kisha Burton The Bonner Scholars Program is seeking donations to provide NEW winter coats for low-income, pre-school-age children and their siblings at Adair County Head Start. If you want to help with this rewarding project, you can either provide a monetary donation, or purchase one or more NEW child's size coats. Donating no later than Tuesday, November 21, 2023, will ensure that coats are delivered in time for colder weather. We like for each child to get their own unique coat, so we encourage you to purchase different styles if you get more than one! Spread the word and encourage others to donate. Gov. Beshear declares State of Emergency for E. KY wildfires From Crystal Staley/Scottie Ellis Frankfort, KY - On Nov. 9, 2023, Gov. Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency as numerous wildfires have been identified across the state, with many in Eastern Kentucky. The Kentucky Division of Forestry is coordinating response efforts and reports there are 31 active fires that are currently being worked on but that continue to spread and 36 contained fires, which are those that have containment lines stopping their spread but require some level of action. There are also 44 fires that are labeled controlled fires, which are those that have been managed and are no longer a risk of escaping control lines. According to Kentucky Emergency Management, drought conditions have increased threats of wildfires statewide. Weather forecasts predict a potential for additional fires across the commonwealth. CPD: Driver charged with DUI, wanton endangerment By Officer Adam Cravens, PIO Columbia Police Department The Columbia Police Department responded to a single vehicle accident with injury on Veterans Memorial Bypass on Wednesday night, November 8, 2023. Louise England, 82, Metcalfe County, KY (1941-2023) Alma Louise (Fields) England, age 82, of the Hickory Ridge Road area of Metcalfe County, Kentucky, passed away on Nov. 3, 2023. She was born on July 31, 1941, the daughter of Johnny Henry and Elizabeth Emaline (Mercer) Fields. She was a longtime member of the Edmonton United Methodist Church and a retired employee of the Metcalfe County Health Center. Louise loved to take pictures and record videos of friends and family and share her immense collection with anyone who would enjoy them. She also loved television game shows, especially Jeopardy, and country music, especially singer Jim Reeves. ACSO: Arrest brings multiple investigations to close From Sheriff Josh Brockman Adair County Sheriff's Office A Columbia man who has been wanted by Adair County Law Enforcement for over two months for a string of break-ins and thefts set off a multi-agency search on Wednesday near the Adair County Schools campus. The man first became a person of interest in a theft from a break-in at a residence in the Gradyville community. Deputy Chandler Staten was able to substantiate evidence tying him to the break-in and a warrant of arrest was obtained. Shortly after that, the Columbia Police Department was able to link him to a break-in they were investigating and Sgt. Justin Cross obtained warrants in relation to that case. Attempts to locate the man had so far been unsuccessful. On Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at around 11:45amCT, Sheriff Josh Brockman received a call on his personal phone from a resident on Oxford Drive stating he had caught a man breaking into his home. The homeowner gave chase, but lost the man in the woods. The description he gave to Sheriff Brockman matched the suspect wanted for the string of break-ins. CACFD provides mutual aid for Knifley fire From Grant Loy, PIO Columbia - Adair County Fire Department The Columbia - Adair County Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 2:58pmCT on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, to a structure fire at 8597 Knifley Road, for a mutual aid request from the Knifley Area Volunteer Fire Department. Upon arrival, the structure on fire was completely on the ground. Firefighters contained the fire to the structure and a small surrounding area of grass. There were 11 firefighters on scene for approximately 1.5 hours. KSP investigates fatal collision in Taylor County By Trooper Jonathan Houk Campbellsville, KY - (November 8, 2023) - On November 8, 2023 at approximately 2:02pmEST, Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 15 Troopers responded to a two-vehicle injury collision on Lebanon Avenue, near Miller Park, in the city limits of Campbellsville. The preliminary investigation revealed that Janet Burton, age 84 of Campbellsville, was traveling north on Lebanon Avenue in a 2005 Toyota Solara when she crossed the centerline of the roadway and entered the southbound lane of travel.
