Administration Building, Scarier Than You Think

By Morgan Bryant
The Campus Courier, Lindsey Wilson College

It is 8:46 PM, you are behind a curtain covered in shadow on a stage that is placed inside of the V.P Henry Auditorium at Lindsey Wilson College. The curtains are a deep blue, and the only light that is apparent is seeping through the cracks from the outer stage. You are fumbling with the various props, ropes, and portions of curtains that stick to your feet, aching to leave at a decent time. That is when you see it, or rather, that is when you see her, standing in the corner in a white dress, watching.

Ghosts are something that is, oftentimes, a hard subject to discuss due to their debatable nature. For some, ghosts are an important part of spiritual life, for others, it is a bunch of hullabaloo.

No-Excuse Early Voting Runs Nov 2-4, 2023

From Michon Lindstrom

Frankfort, KY - Secretary of State Michael Adams is calling on gubernatorial candidates Andy Beshear and Daniel Cameron to promote early voting in the November election.

"The best way to avoid lines at the polls is to take advantage of our early voting days, this Thursday through Saturday," said Adams. "I ask Governor Beshear and Attorney General Cameron to encourage their supporters to vote early and help ensure a smooth election for both our voters and our poll workers."

In 2021, Adams successfully worked with both Republicans and Democrats to enact three days of no-excuse early voting. Kentuckians can vote early on Thursday, November 2 through Saturday, November 4.

Voters can find their early voting locations and times at govote.ky.gov.

Thank you to those who came out Friday night

By Mike Watson

Dave Thomas and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who braved the mist and drizzle on the evening of October 27 to attend the first--we hope of many--down town walking tours. This one, "Shot - Stabbed - Hanged - and More on the Columbia Public Square," seems to have been a success. Our "people counters" who try to determine the turnout at such events had a difficult time deciding how many came out, but we have concluded that between 130 and 140 were in attendance.

We could not have pulled this off without many who encouraged us, those who assisted in gathering information, and our behind-the-scenes wives--Amy and Renea! Also a big thank you to Merle and Karen Burton for allowing us the use of their mobile speaker system.

Poetry by Robert Stone: Views will change

Views will change: A sonnet for the birthday of Terri Powell Haight
By Robert Stone
An older painting once was tucked away
forgotten in a drawer seldom used
but turned up later on another day
when fate original resort excused.

The painter nearly tossed it in the trash
believing that it did not measure up
but views will change so take no action rash
and live in hope of grateful stirrup cup.

Our friends may unexpected pleasure take
in some small thing we did not value much
but we must hope no disappointment make
and seek to learn with love all others touch.

Farewells must sometimes final be the end
but fear discarding treasure friends commend.
- Robert Stone, 29 October 2023

Letter: Question about bridge at Swan Pond Bottom

Joe Curtis writes:
I'd like to know if the elevation of planned roadway and bridge will be above the flood plan should there ever be a catastrophic loss of the Wolf Creek Dam? From pic it looks questionable unless there is a massive amount of more fill applied to what's in the pic. Sometimes there more forethought applied to costs rather than safety.

Come to the basketball games, be loud, and proud!

From Deron Breeze, Head Boys Basketball Coach
Adair County High School

Dear Community/Staff/Students/Fans: We are about to begin practice and embark on the 2023-2024 Adair County High School basketball season. We have many exciting and talented players that should make this year exciting and successful for everyone involved. It is up to the team to put in the time, effort, and dedication in order to ensure that expectations are met.

This year we have another competitive schedule. The schedule will challenge our team and entertain our fans. We will continue our traditional rivalries with district and area schools including Taylor County, Campbellsville, Green County, Russell County, Casey County, and Metcalfe County. Furthermore, we have added a game with the defending state champions Warren Central Dragons.

Finally, I want to encourage you to pack the gym and be loud this year. We have maintained a competitive and winning program. However, it takes all of us for this to be successful. We look to build upon last year and the twenty-three wins. Come to the game, be loud, and proud! Roll Tribe!
