Paul Shively, 80, Taylor County, KY (1943-2023)

Paul Shively of Campbellsville, son of the late Robert Shively and Nannie Harden Shively, was born March 24, 1943 in Taylor County, Kentucky. He died Saturday, October 21, 2023 at age 80.

He was a friend to many and a stranger to no one. If you were fortunate enough to know him, you knew that he loved his family and had an unwavering faith in Jesus. A natural hard worker, Paul retired from Parker-Kalon but also owned and operated a logging and sawmill business. Even in retirement, he was often asked to "walk timber" and mark trees for people. Paul also enjoyed taking care of his farm where he raised livestock, tobacco, corn, beans, and hay.

Kentucky Color: Citizen's Park mulberry trees

By Billy Joe Fudge

The first greeter besides gravel and grass at Citizen's Park is this beautiful, soft green and yellow Mulberry. In fact, the second tree is Mulberry as well. Unfortunately, it is not a native Red mulberry but is Paper mulberry and like White and Black mulberries, is an exotic.

Paper mulberry has been here for years and spreads quite readily. However, there are many invasive species of plants which are much more damaging to our native, naturally regenerated tree species and native plants than Paper mulberry.

Obviously, considering it's name, the inner bark can be used to make high quality paper and, according to my reading, it has been used to make cloth as well.
