Sock and Blanket Drive to benefit Ronald McDonald House

Aaron Branham has decided to do a sock and blanket drive for the Ronald McDonald House in time for Christmas 2023, and would like folks to know in time to prepare a donation. You may remember Aaron from similar drives for RMH and Norton Children's Hospital (formerly Kosair Children's Hospital) in the past few years.

Aaron says that like Norton Children's Hospital, "The Ronald McDonald House holds a special place in my heart."

This year, Aaron would like to collect socks from infant to adult size for both boys and girls, and also blankets from infant up to twin size for both boys and girls. In order for the socks and blankets to be accepted, they must be new. New blankets can be hand-sewn, crocheted, or store-bought. It is important that donated items not be around pets or smoke.

Donations may be dropped off at:
  • Jeffries Hardware, 704 Jamestown St, Columbia, KY
  • City Hall, 116 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY
Aaron will be collecting items from November 1, 2023, through December 25, 2023. Questions can be directed to 270-634-3831 or by text to 270-250-5096.

Carol Perkins: On a Shoebox Mission

Previous Column: Reflections of Edmonton Pumpkin Festival 2023

By Carol Perkins

Selfish? Greedy? Either may describe me. Here's what I mean. Our minister lined the altar a few years ago with Operation Shoebox Mission boxes and asked the congregation to choose how many we wanted to fill. Guy and I picked up two boxes and, near the deadline, went shopping and spent nearly sixty dollars. "SIXTY DOLLARS," I exclaimed.

Guy said, "But it's a worthy cause."

In addition, we would add ten dollars a box for shipping.

"TEN DOLLARS," I exclaimed.

"But do you know how much it cost me to send one box that weighed nothing to Texas?" he asked.

Shipping is not cheap. I was.

Jump ahead two years. Our minister asked if I would organize the mission for our church.
