Downtown Days celebration Schedule of Events By Amber Hobaugh Adair Progress & Russell Current Editor Downtown Days is celebrating its 20th year with two days of great events on Friday, October 13 and Saturday, October 14, 2023 on the public square in Columbia, Ky. The schedule is jam packed with oldies but goodies - vendor booths, food trucks, the Downtown Days Classic Car show, the beauty pageant, Columbia Baptist Church pooch parade, corn hole tournament, antique tractor show, and the mullet pageant. New this year is a Run For Joy 5K, line dancing and introducing The Block, a second stage to add to our already awesome lineup of entertainment. All of this and more leading up to the main event Saturday night with a free concert by The Kentucky Headhunters at 7pmCT on the main stage! Campbellsville Fire-Rescue locates missing person From Chris Taylor, Chief Campbellsville Fire-Rescue Campbellsville Fire-Rescue was dispatched to Speck Ridge Road for a report of a missing person at 11:15ET on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. Upon arrival, firefighters interviewed the reporting party and coordinated with Taylor County Sheriff Department. Searchers gathered lost person information and performed a hasty search of the residence and a hasty search of roadways without finding the individual. Firefighters then performed a detailed search operation, systematically using lost person behavior information. A search team located the missing individual in heavy brush in a wooded area. The patient was located conscious/alert but did require transport to TRH. ACSO: Motorcycle collision in Knifley community By Sheriff Josh Brockman Adair County Sheriff's Office On Tuessday, October 10, 2023, at 10:49, Adair County 911 received a call of a single vehicle motorcycle accident on Elkorn Road in the Knifley community. Preliminary investigation indicates that Mary Spencer, age 60, of Connecticut, was traveling north on Elkorn Road riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Spencer stated a dog ran out into roadway. Spencer attempted to miss it, but was unable to avoid striking it. The bike then laid down, throwing her from her bike into the ditch line. Oct 16-22 proclaimed Retired Teacher's Week in Columbia From Tiffany Collins The week of October 16-22, 2023, has been proclaimed as Adair County Retired Teacher's Week in Columbia, as the result of a proclamation issued by Columbia Mayor Pamela Hoots on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. The Adair County Retired Teachers Association will have a booth setup during Downtown Days this week. The local ACRTA has donated to the food pantry, family resource centers, raised money for an Adair County graduate to receive a scholarship, recognized a local essay winner; as well as donating to other local and state organizations. The KRTA was established in 1957 and is the largest association with 32,000 members of retired educators in the state whose sole purpose is to look out for the welfare of retired educators. KSP (ret) Joe Ed McDonald, 75, Edmonton, KY (1948-2023) Joseph Edwin Rogers McDonald, age 75 was born July 8, 1948, and died Oct 7, 2023. He was born in Edmonton, Kentucky at the home of his grandparents, Joe and Lasca Martin, to his parents, Thomas Edwin (Eddie) McDonald, and Betty Jo Martin. He was the second child of four. He graduated from Metcalfe County High School in 1966, later attending Campbellsville College where he met his wife of 56 years in an English class. Joe and Priscilla VanHook were married March 11,1967, at the home of her grandmother, Ruth Corum. They have two children, John Rogers McDonald, and Patrick Dean McDonald. Joe Ed served with the Kentucky State Police from 1968 to 1998 where he served at Post 10, and Post 11, retiring as an investigative lieutenant of detectives at Bowling Green Post 3. During his service he worked as a range officer and was a member of the State Police Pistol Team. KY General Fund and Road Fund receipts for September 2023 From John Hicks/Greg Harkenrider Frankfort, KY - The Office of State Budget Director reported on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, that General Fund receipts rose 6.1 percent in September with revenues of $1,570.8 million. Collections for the month exceeded last September's total by $90.4 million. It is the 13th consecutive month of General Fund receipts in excess of $1 billion. So far this fiscal year (FY24), the General Fund has grown 6.9 percent. Based on September's results, General Fund revenues can decline 2.4 percent for the remainder of the fiscal year and still meet the official estimate. The Consensus Forecasting process began in September with preliminary estimates and will issue final, official revenue estimates for Fiscal Years 2024-2026 in December.
