ACSO: Mother dies in accident, two-year-old saved From Sheriff Josh Brockman, Adair County Sheriff On 10-5-2023 at 5:22pm Adair County 911 received multiple calls of a vehicle rollover around the 48 mile marker of the LBN Parkway. Deputies Chandler Staten and Josh Durbin arrived on scene to find the operator had been ejected and was partially pinned underneath the vehicle. A 2 year old male juvenile was also located inside the vehicle restrained in car seat. Due to the severity of collision, and safety concerns with traffic, Columbia Police Department responded to assist and shut down the parkway at the 49 mile marker. Deputies along with the first initial responders and passing motorist who stopped was able to pick up on side of vehicle enough to free her from underneath it and EMS began life saving measures. Nina Ruth Hopper, 89, Cumberland County, KY (1933-2023) Nina Ruth Hopper, age 89 of Burkesville, KY passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Cumberland County Hospital. Nina was born on November 2, 1933 in Tompkinsville, KY to the late Millard Kerr and Pearl Short Kerr. She was a member of Judio Church of Christ and a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Hopper in 2001 and a daughter, Brenda Westmoreland in 2015. Freedom Separate Baptist celebrating 100 years Oct 8th By Todd Green Freedom Separate Baptist Church will celebrate its 100 year anniversary Sunday, October 8, 2023. Everyone is invited to the service that starts at 10amCT and dinner on the ground which will include a pig roast. There will be lots of history available about the church and the Conover School across the road. Freedom Church Road is approximately 7 miles from the Columbia courthouse. Turn right on Freedom Church Road just before you get to the WHVE radio tower and go about a half a mile. The church is on the left. Carol Perkins: Halloween Memories Previous Column: You're on the Air By Carol Perkins Pumpkins, fodder, and mums. Don't you just love this time of the year? The beauty of the pumpkins lying against the green leaves depicts living in the country. Naturally, I think of scarecrows, ghosts, and goblins. For the most part, we adults get a kick out of Halloween with trick-or-treaters dressed in clever costumes, holding plastic pumpkin baskets out for adults to fill, and mamas standing nearby. October means fall and fall means Halloween. The town of Edmonton, once upon a time, was filled with trick-or-treaters on Halloween night. Traffic was bumper to bumper as they flocked to Muncie Court by the hundreds. As far as I know, children walked up and down the streets without incident and then went home to spread out their goodies. Then by eight o'clock, the town began to shake with activity; it was not, necessarily, a safe place to be. One of the best Halloween memories concerned a truck and a pumpkin patch. Swimming: LWC travels to Shawnee State for Dual Saturday The Lindsey Wilsom men's and women's swimming teams hit the road for a dual Saturday against Shawnee State (OH) at NoonCT at the Warsaw Aquatic Center in Portsmouth, OH. The men's and women's teams are coming off of strong performances at the Dr. Dillery Fall Frenzy last weekend. The Blue Raider men finished first at the event while the women finished runner-up. On the men's side, Lindsey Wilson won seven events in the season-opener last week. The Blue Raider women also captured seven victories.
