DeMolay Month proclaimed in Columbia

The month of May has been proclaimed as DeMolay Month in Columbia in recognition of the local DeMolay Chapter.

The local youth group does several community projects through the year. Next weekend they will be placing flags on veterans graves in cemeteries throughout Columbia and Adair County.

The Joyful Hearts Quilt Guild proudly presents four upcoming quilting classes that are open to the public:
  • Blended Braid Pattern June 14, 2023 from 9amCT to 3pmCT, $40 Class Fee, Teacher: Laurie Lou Hood

  • Half and Half Pattern June 15, 2023 from 9amCT to 3pmCT, $47 Class Fee, Teacher: Vickie Johnson

  • Playful Pinwheels Pattern, July 11, 2023 from 9amCT to 3pmCT, $25 Class Fee, Teacher: Marilyn Becker

  • Sweet Dreams Pattern July 12, 2023 from 9amCT to 3pmCT, $25 Class Fee, Teacher: Sheryl Bowling

Each of the classes will take place at the Adair County Extension Office, 409 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY. Each class has a different cost. Participants must bring their own sewing machine to the class.

ACSO: Tennessee women airlifted following parkway collision

On Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 7:02pmCT, Adair County 911 received a call about a single vehicle auto collision around the 55 mile marker of the Louie B. Nunn - Cumberland Expressway. Sheriff's Deputy Josh Durbin was dispatched to the scene along with emergency services personnel.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Tammy Sanders, age 48, of Tennessee, was traveling east on the parkway when she lost control of her 2019 Dodge Charger. Initially the vehicle struck the guardrail of the right hand shoulder. The vehicle then went across the median and westbound lanes. The vehicle continued on until it struck a rock wall head on.

Sanders was transported to TJ Health Columbia, where she was taken to the helipad and airlifted to University of Kentucky Hospital.

Benny Joe Humphress, 73, Campbellsville, KY (1949-2023)

Benny Joe Humphress died peacefully on May 20, 2023 at VA Hospital in Lexington surrounded by those he loved. He was 73 years old.

Benny believed we preach our own funeral in how we live our life. Visitation only will be held from 4pmET until 7pmET on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Ave., Campbellsville, KY. His wish was to be buried with his wife at the time of her passing.

Sandra Kay Davis of Campbellsville died at 8:36 P.M., Thursday, May 18, 2023 in Louisville. She was 82 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 11amET on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Ave., Campbellsville, KY, officiated by Bro. John Loper. Burial will follow in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.
