Swimming Lessons at Holloway Health & Wellness Center

From Annissa Koekemoer

The Lindsey Wilson College Swim Team is hosting another round of group swimming lessons at the Holloway Health & Wellness Center. It has been very popular the last two years, and the children of the community have been able to learn in a fun environment.

There will be two consecutive weeks that these group lessons will be hosted, on May 15-18 and May 22-25, 2023, for $45 per week. The lessons are broken up into four groups, depending on their swimming abilities:
  • Tadpoles are for the youngest ones. Preferably already 3 years old. These children are still getting comfortable in the water, learning how to blow bubbles, floating on their backs, and submerging in the water. Tadpoles meet from 4:15-4:45pmCT or 5:00-5:30pmCT

  • Guppies are a bit more advanced. They already know how to blow bubbles, are comfortable floating, and can jump into the pool with their bodies fully submerged. They can typically also swim mostly unassisted. In this group they will learn the basics of freestyle and backstroke. Guppies meet from 4:15-4:45pmCT or 5:00-5:30pmCT

  • The Angel Fish group progress on their stroke development. They learn the basics of all four strokes. Angel Fish meet from 5:00-5:30pmCT

  • The Stingrays group will work on improving their strokes, and maybe work on some diving. Stingrays meet from 5:30-6:00pmCT
Parents are welcome to sign up for either week, or both weeks (no HWC membership needed). Tadpoles and Guppies have two timeslots to choose from, whereas Angel Fish and Stingrays only have one available timeslot per week. To sign up, visit the front desk of the HWC, or email Annissa at koekemoera@lindsey.edu.

Legg tells CU graduates to live a life of giving

Legg referenced Galatians 5:22, which lists the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, kindness and faith.

By Gerard Flanagan, news writer and photographer, Office of University Communications

College graduates often receive a trove of compliments as they prepare to receive their diplomas, ranging from their strong work ethic to their talents, or perhaps their perseverance.

But, Dr. Hilda Legg, in her address at Campbellsville University's commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 6, in the Powell Athletic Center, gave the graduates a unique compliment, calling them "a bunch of fruit."

"Let me tell you what kind of fruit you are," Legg told the candidates for graduation. "You are the fruit of your mother's womb, the fruit of your parents and family who have been parenting you. "You're the fruit of your teachers, your coaches, your principals, and you are the fruit of Campbellsville University."

Courthouse Flag

By Guy Babin, Proud American Veteran
Gradyville, KY

The flag in front of the old courthouse is in disrepair. Really, it's disrespectful. It needs to be replaced and the rigging needs repair/replacement also.

I've contacted the Judge's office multiple times over the recent weeks, yet it remains an embarrassment--in spite of personal assertations from the Judge he'd take care of it.

Take it down or fix it now! If the Judge can't, maybe the VFW will.
