Carol Perkins: Spring Break with JC Previous Column: Carol Perkins: Go Eme Go By Carol Perkins Spring Break, the beach, seafood, and family. That was my idea when we booked a condo in Perdido Key. I hadn't spent much time lately with my Tennessee grandson so this trip would be memorable. Best laid plans don't always happen. First, Carla's husband ended up in the hospital the week before the trip and was released three days before we were to leave. Guy developed a severe sinus infection/headache the night before departure. Not good. The next morning, I headed out alone, not knowing who was going with me. JC, our seventeen-year-old grandson, and I headed out, just the two of us. I was fearful he would be bored with me, but I don't think he was. The others, hopefully, were coming the next day. JC's experience with interstate driving was limited, plus the size of my vehicle was not comfortable for him so he was the "GPS" of the trip. Please pull together to reduce child abuse By Mary Bardin Kentucky has been number 1 in the nation for 3 years straight in child abuse cases. These facts are alarming and disturbing. There are so many cases that go unreported. Children may report abuse to teachers, friends, family or total strangers. Sometimes they will report only once snd never mention again. I am proud Adair County has proclaimed April as Child Abuse Month. It is important for the community to report signs and symptoms of physical and sexual abuse. We sometimes turn our heads on a child begging for help in a discreet manner. The child may have unexplained bruising or other injuries that are said to be from falls. The child may be fearful of telling what really happened for fear of punishment.
