DNA and family heritage is focus in Genealogy meeting

Darlene Franklin Campbell shared her passion and experience in the world of ancestry research at the Adair County Genealogical Society meeting April 3, 2023. She spoke on DNA and its value in family research.

Having used several of the ancestry services since beginning her family study at age 16, she is happy to share her experiences.

She says for a beginner who just wants to sample one as a start, she would recommend "23andme" and then run the results of that service through "GEDmatch" which is the service used by forensic researchers.

At the end of the day, she says, none of the services you can buy do better than in-person genealogical research locally.

The Adair County Genealogical Society meets at the Adair Genealogy and History Research Center, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. The Center is open to the public.

2023-04-05 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Darlene Campbell began researching her family heritage at age 16 and is quick to share her experience with others as she did at the April Genealogical Society meeting Monday evening. She has signed up for and paid for several of the ancestry services and says for someone who just wants to sample one of the services as a start, she would recommend "23andme" and then run the results they give through "GEDmatch" which is used by forensic researchers. She also says that none of the services you can buy do better than in-person genealogical research locally.
