Pay attention to mood in this season of change

From Christy Morris, Hosparus of Green River

Many people go through short periods of time where they feel sad or not like their usual selves. Sometimes, these mood changes begin and end when the seasons change. People may start to feel "down" when the days get shorter in the fall and winter (also called "winter blues") and begin to feel better in the spring, with longer daylight hours.

In some cases, these mood changes are more serious and can affect how a person feels, thinks, and handles daily activities.

Carol Perkins: Get That Tip and Let'er Rip

Previous Column: Trapped

By Carol Perkins

"Get that tip and let'er rip." Remember that one? What about, "Sinker, Joey, Sinker." Then there's "Two bits, four bits, six bits a dollar, all for Metcalfe, stand up and holler." We also had, "HU S T L E, hustle Hornets, hustle." Then there was, "Get that ball, Get that Ball, Get It, Get It." Attending the district tourney last week brought those cheers to mind. Oh, so long ago.

As I watched the Lady Hornets and the Hornets, I thought about my high school days and what the district meant to us. We had a week of making signs, streaming crepe paper, making pompoms, and preparing pep rallies. (No girls' team back then.) As was the tradition, local fans hosted the boys to a fine dinner before the game. The way the boys sashayed into the gym that night was magical.

Kentucky Color: Way Back in 1970

By Billy Joe Fudge

Way back in 1970 at Lindsey Wilson College before personal computers, we actually had books from which to study.

Way back in 1970, before personal computers, pocket calculators and cell phones, we actually had to use pencils and paper to make mathematical calculations.

Way back in 1970, before Cloud and digital banking allowed us to make deposits and withdrawals using our digital devices, we had to walk in the bank to make deposits and withdrawals.

Way back in 1970, we could have hardly imagined the changes that were looming just over the horizon and I dare say that in 2023 we can hardly imagine the changes looming over the horizon. However, we are certainly more cognizant of the reality that those changes will most likely continue to diminish our humanity and personal self-sufficiency!
