Letter: Put it in your own trash can

Annette Burton writes:
I complain about this all the time. There is no reason for people to throw trash out of their cars. We have laws why can't they be enforced? Our beautiful county is looking really bad, plus when the moving starts, all that trash blows every where. All it takes is a trash bag in your car and take it home put it in your own trash can.

January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month

From Captain Paul Blanton

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear and the Kentucky State Police (KSP) are joining the nation in recognizing January as Human Trafficking Prevention Month, a time to educate citizens about identifying and preventing the crime.

"It is important that we all recognize the signs of human trafficking to prevent this crime from happening," said Gov. Beshear. "Our administration is committed to ending this horrific crime and providing help to survivors so they can reclaim their lives."

Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery. Traffickers use force, fraud, or coercion to achieve exploitation. Sergeant Vicki Day, who is a member of the KSP Human Trafficking Unit, says awareness is key to ending trafficking while providing support to victims.

"This month is a necessary time to reflect on the resilience of trafficking survivors and recognize the efforts of those who work tirelessly to prevent and eliminate this inhumane and devastating form of abuse and exploitation. The more citizens who are aware of the signs, the better chance of ending trafficking." said Sgt. Day.

Letter: Trash on roadside

Martha Berry writes:
The picture of trash along 61 looks like someone lost part of their load. If random trash, whatever happened to the jail residents picking up roadside trash? Looks like a winner for both sides, prisoners are out of the cells doing something useful and the roads are clean.

KSP: Body discovered in car after multi-county pursuit

From Trooper Scottie Pennington

London, KY - The Kentucky State Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on I-75 South near the 83-mile marker in Madison County just after 10:12amET on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. The initial investigation indicated that the vehicle's operator was driving carelessly.

The Trooper activated his emergency equipment and the vehicle initially stopped. Once Troopers approached the vehicle the unknown driver sped off and continued traveling south on I-75 at a high rate of speed through three counties. The fleeing vehicle struck several Kentucky State Police vehicles.

In an effort to stop the vehicle a legal intervention maneuver was performed by KSP, and the fleeing vehicle became disabled at the 45-mile marker southbound in Laurel County. The driver, David Maurice Reed, 54 years old of St. Petersburg, FL, was arrested at that time without further incident.

Further investigation after the stop revealed a deceased female located inside the vehicle. She was later positively identified as Rachel Louise Carder, 53 years old, of Huntington, WV. The cause of death is undetermined at this time, and foul play is suspected.
