Applications open for grants for high-speed internet Local government, nonprofit, cooperative, private provider high-speed networks eligible to apply From Crystal Staley/Scottie Ellis Frankfort, KY - On Monday, November 21, 2022, Gov. Andy Beshear announced that the application window is open for the next round of grant funding to support the state's expansion of high-speed internet access to more families across Kentucky. This round includes more than $206 million. The distribution of these funds supports Gov. Beshear's Better Internet Initiative, which is committed to expanding high-speed internet access to areas of the commonwealth with unserved populations or those with download speeds of 10 Mbps or less. "Access to reliable, high-speed internet is not only essential to our future economic growth; it is critical infrastructure that is as vital as roads and bridges," Gov. Beshear said. "These grant funds help us ensure we are reaching every corner of the commonwealth by helping more families have high-speed internet for the first time." Abandoned apartment fire suspicious Chris Taylor, Chief Executive Director Fire-Rescue-EMS Campbellsville Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a report of a working apartment fire at 602 East First Street. Firefighters searched for occupants, extinguished the fire and provided overhaul. No firefighter or civilians injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is undetermined but is suspicious in nature. This building has been abandoned and mostly boarded up since a major fire on November 13, 2019. We have responded to numerous fires at this location over the years. This abandoned apartment building creates a hazardous life threatening situation for fire-rescue personnel. Mitzi Bault, 65, Adair County, KY (1957-2022) Mitzi Jean McKinley Bault will be remembered as a positive force for her family, friends, children, animals, and a as cancer fighter who defied the odds for 25 years after her first diagnosis. In 2018 she wrote, "No one is promised tomorrow so make every day count. Life is not about things, it's about the love of life and the people in it... Lots of Love from McKinley Lane, 'nite." Mitzi Bault, 65, of Columbia, Kentucky, died Monday, November 21, 2022 at her home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She requested cremation and directed that no service nor visitation be held. She asked that instead of flowers, donations be made to Green River Animal Shelter. Notice: Adair County Ambulance Service Bid From Rita Bragg The Adair County Ambulance Service will be taking sealed bids on a wrecked 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 4x4 ambulance. This vehicle is non-operable and has a salvage title. The vehicle has 47,779 miles when taken out of service. Photos of vehicle can be provided upon request. Upon awarding bid and upon payment, the bidder will have 14 days to remove vehicle. The vehicle is located in Columbia, KY and will have to be hauled/towed. OCC 2022 Total: 2,701 OCC Shoe Box Gifts By Mark Fudge The 2022 Operation Christmas Child shoe box drive came to a close Monday in Adair County and all across the United States. 2,701 shoebox gifts were collected from Adair Countians at the Wheet Fellowship Hall of the Columbia First Church of the Nazarene. We want to thank all of the individuals, churches, and organizations that made this year's shoebox drive such a huge success. We also would like to give a special thanks to all of the volunteers that donated countless hours at the drop off center. A special thanks to the Columbia First Church of the Nazarene for providing their Wheet Fellowship Hall during the eight days of collection. Also a special thanks to Mike Talley and all of the coaches and athletes from Lindsey Wilson College and other individuals that loaded the boxes from Adair and surrounding counties on to Semi trailers. Bowling: LWC Women finish 15th at Brandon Burns Memorial Smyrna, TN - The Lindsey Wilson women's bowling team finished in 15th place at the Brandon Burns Memorial tournament over the weekend. Lindsey Wilson racked up 7,108 points across six team games and 16 baker style games. LWC managed 4,779 points during the team games and 2,329 points during baker play.
