Reinhardt scored all of their points across the final seven minutes of play. The Blue Raider defense came up huge, stuffing a two-point conversion to preserve the win with just 18 seconds to play in the game.

Carol Perkins: Christmas officially has begun

Previous Column: Preparing for Thanksgiving

By Carol Perkins

Once upon a time, Christmas officially began (in my house) the day school was dismissed for vacation, usually around the 16th of December. Any tree put up before then was an oddity. Any tree put up now is "late." The reason for the wait was likely because most trees came straight from the woods and if up too long, dried out and might catch the house on fire. At least, that is what I was told.

With the onset of fake trees that try to look real, we can now enjoy the beauty of the lights and the decorations longer. We don't get "burned out" because we're not home long enough to look at its beauty and relax.

Finding time to decorate the tree for busy young families is difficult. Ballgames, practices, extra activities, dance, church meetings, visiting Grandma (maybe), and grabbing food on the run is a way of life. How often is the family together long enough to have one of those Hallmark moments around a tree? I would like to think that occurs, but I suspect it doesn't.

I have eased into decorating.

Local schools raise over $3.5k in J.O.Y. Jars

From Maggie Coleman

Three of our local schools recently did a J.O.Y. Jar fundraiser for us. The winning class at each school was promised a pizza party. We have had all the change counted and gotten the results back.

The following classes were the winners in each school:
  • ACPC Ms. Staten
  • ACES Ms. Newell
  • ACMS Ms. Bloyd
Overall, Mrs. Newell's class raised the most with $642.83. The grand total of these three schools is $3,631.88.

We just thought it would be a fun way to teach our young people about giving. We weren't even sure we would raise enough money to pay for the pizza parties. We are blown away at the giving that has occurred! If these young people continue to be this giving they will indeed change the world. Thank you to Adair County Middle, Primary, and Elementary Schools for encouraging your students to participate.
