Shout out to the election officials after longest day

2022-11-08 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Give a shout out to these election officials when you see them, they put in many, many hours to make sure things go smoothly on this big day in Adair County. From left are: Sheila, Haylee, Kalina, Vicky, Lisa, Jennifer, Nadalie, Ricky, Tracy and Shauna.

They started around 5amCT and kept going until every vote was tallied and every piece of equipment secured, hoping to get home around 10pm. It was reported to be a good day with heavy turnout. There was only one mishap in the Breeding precinct when a power outage stopped things but it was handled quickly.

Connie Youngs writes:
It seems that for the past month or so, there have been a lot of warnings to boil water due to mainline water breaks at various locations. Does anyone know why?
Connie, thanks for writing. We checked with the folks at CAUD, and they say that construction work has been the cause of the recent uptick in mainline breaks. --Pen

Vote today and make it count!

Election officials have every precinct set up and ready to welcome voters all around Adair County from 6amCT to 6pmCT. Adair Co. Precinct Locations

Remember, when you are handed your ballot, take time to scan it beforehand and make sure it is the correct one for you.

Everyone should take their time and make absolutely sure both sides of the ballot are checked before they place it into the voting machine. Once it is fed into the scanner, there's no way to get it back for changes.

Mark only in the box by your choice. If you are messy or casual with the marker, if a line should touch another box, the scanner will be unable to read the choice, and will not count it.

Voters are welcome to stop by the Adair Co. Clerk's Office on the Square in Columbia to ask any questions in advance. If you don't know your precinct, just stop by and someone will help you. Election officials will do their best to answer every question and help each voter have a positive experience.

Pastor John Chowning on the Election

From Senior Pastor John Chowning
In his message to parishioners and friends of Saloma Baptist Church

You are encouraged to exercise this very basic and important right and responsibility to cast your ballot for the candidates of your choice. It is most appropriate to be influenced by your Christian values and beliefs in making your choices. Make informed choices on the candidate selections and issues on the ballot.

And when the election is over and the votes are counted, it is time to move forward as our elected officials address and deal with the myriad issues we face.

Regardless of whether our candidate(s) wins or loses, we are called to pray for our leaders and raise them up to God in intercession. And it is critical that we as Christians engage in civil and constructive discourse when we disagree with the policies of our leaders.

Violence is not an acceptable response to political disagreement. Let's be in prayer as we move forward in our community, state, and nation.

May we as believers in Jesus Christ set forth the standard of mercy, grace, love, and humility while standing firmly "in the gap" for the truth and values of Him whom we follow as Savior and Lord.
