Thomas D. Emberton, Metcalfe County, KY (1932-2022) The Honorable Tom Emberton, Sr, retired Chief Judge of the Kentucky Court of Appeals, died October 20, 2022 in a house fire. He was a noted leader and statesman, serving his country, state, and community all his adult life. Following a four-year tour of duty in the United States Air Force, Tom enrolled in Western Kentucky University, beginning his more than 65-year involvement with WKU. During his time as a student, he was elected president of his sophomore and junior class, president of his fraternity and business manager of the College Heights Herald. Upon completion of his studies at WKU he attended the University of Louisville School of Law where he continued his willingness to serve in leadership roles, serving as president of Delta Theta Psi Law Fraternity and president of the Student Bar Association. ACHS Academic Team Earn Awards in Pre-Season Event ACHS Academic Team members Bailey Watts, Trey Stephens, and Joseph Kotter participated in a KAAC-sanctioned pre-season Content Assessment event the week of October 17-21, 2022. Over 25 schools with multiple competitors per school from across the state took place in the event. Bailey Watts won 1st Place overall in the Arts and Humanities test and took 2nd overall in Language Arts. Trey Stephens earned 14th overall in the Social Studies event. The event was a pre-Governor's Cup warmup for students who are preparing for the Spring semester's District, Region, and State events. Governor's Cup begins on January 21 for the high school team and January 14 for middle school. North Metcalfe Fire and Rescue to hold fundraiser A fundraiser country ham supper and auction will be held by the North Metcalfe Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad, Center, KY Station, on November 5, 2022. It starts at 4pmCT with the auction at 6:30pmCT. All proceeds will be used to purchase needed NMFD and rescue. Family sends gratitude to neighbors, Fire Dept. Thank you to our local brave heroes at the Columbia/Adair Fire Department and our brave and concerned neighbors that we had a home to sleep in after a barn/storage building caught fire on Saturday afternoon, October 22, 2022. We wish God's blessings on all these wonderful people and thanks be to God that they came to our rescue when they did. The Fire Department said 5 minutes later could have lost us our home. Another statement to the strong character and generosity of this great community and our gracious and kind neighbors. We are eternally grateful for God's Grace and for all the wonderful people who assisted his Good Works. Creason and Anderson speak on mission trips at CU By Simon Baker Campbellsville, KY - Missionary Hillary Anderson along with CU campus minister Trent Creason spoke about "finding one's calling and serving Christ abroad" at Missions Moment recently. Anderson spoke about her mission trip to Ghana, her experiences, and even struggles while abroad. She had been in West Africa for two years and just returned.
