Winds signal a chance of afternoon storms The National Weather Service in Louisville issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook this morning for an area in South Central Kentucky that includes Adair and surrounding counties. A few thunderstorms this afternoon and evening could become strong to severe, with locally damaging winds as the main threat. A brief tornado cannot be ruled out, and small to marginally severe hail will be possible in the strongest storms. Soccer: LWC matches postponed to Thursday The Lindsey Wilson men and women's soccer match against Cumberlands (KY) that was scheduled for tonight has been postponed due to inclement weather scheduled to hit the area. The contests will now be played on Thursday. The LWC women will take on No. 4-ranked Cumberlands at 5pmCT followed by the LWC men who take on the No. 14-ranked Patriots at 7pmCT. Lindsey Wilson's annual couch night will now also take place on Thursday. Both the men and women now take on Cumberlands on Thursday on Ray Wells Field at Walter S. ACSO: Injury collision on KY 61 South From Sheriff Josh Brockman Adair County Sheriff's Office On Monday, October 10, 2022 at 7:18amCT, the Adair County Sheriff's Office responded to a two-vehicle injury collision at the intersection of Hughes Road and KY 61 South. Upon arrival, Deputy McCarol found that a 2017 Nissan Sentra being operated by Seth Staley of Cumberland county ran a stop sign at the end of Hughes Road. Staley's vehicle struck a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, operated by Kenny Smith, heading north on 61, in the side as it passed Hughes Road. Adair County odds and ends, mid-October, 1932 As mid-October 1932 approached, New York Yankees fans still basked in their team's recent 4-0 sweep of the Cubbies in the World Series; famed airplane pilot Amelia Earhart opined that regular commercial trans-Atlantic flights would come sooner rather than later; the Depression neared the end of its third year with unemployment at 20% or higher and no end in sight; and the November election loomed ever closer on the near-event horizon. But meanwhile, back in The Shire... By JIM At the Columbia Cash Store (IGA), $18.75 would put a Philco Junior radio in the hands of a proud new owner. The device featured Balanced Superheterodyne, and the price included the tubes and tax. Said the ad, "Every Family Can Afford One of These Radios." (This being pre-REA, if the family lived out in the county and didn't have a "light plant," that is, a gasoline or diesel powered generator, the purchase of a battery for the radio would have also been required.) Many Adair Countians who had radios were experiencing difficulties picking up WHAS 840 radio. The station was putting up a powerful new 50,000 watt transmitting tower and was having to use a 1,000 watt auxiliary tower in the interim.
