October 11 proclaimed Kentucky Women in Agriculture Day From Lisa Tolliver Owensboro, KY - With more than half of all farming operations in the United States listing women as a principal operator or a decision-maker, it's important to recognize women as an essential part of today's farming sector. Commissioner of Agriculture Dr. Ryan Quarles took that recognition a step further when he signed a proclamation naming today, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, as "Kentucky Women in Agriculture Day." "The number of women farmers in Kentucky and across the globe keeps growing," Commissioner Quarles said. "Their influence, knowledge, and strong leadership skills are a genuine bonus for agriculture and its future. Acknowledging that is the purest form of gratitude we can show those who give of themselves on our farms, for their families and for our own." Recognizing the importance of women in Kentucky's farming sector, Commissioner Quarles presented the proclamation at the Kentucky Women in Agriculture (KWIA) annual conference in Owensboro. Columbia Mayor's Report on the Month of September Mayor's Pamela Hoots' Report on the Month of September, 2022 in City of Columbia: Approximately forty loads of brush, limbs, and debris, were picked up by the Columbia City Street Department during the month. This is an excellent service that the city provides to its residents. We participated again in "Malvina Farkle Day," with Lindsey Wilson College. This is a great event for our community. We had the LWC Men's Basketball Team with us at City Hall. They cleaned windows, painted railings, and cleaned the landscaping. (Coach Chris Starks was on hand). At the Little League Park we had the men's soccer team; they painted, picked up rocks, and cleaned. The Trabue Russell House had a team led by Abe Cross and they picked up outside (Thank you Mary Anne Loy). The City Park on Fairground Street worked with the Men's Junior Varsity Team; and, did cleanup and mulching. Jackie Chapman and Tim Smith were with the group at the Veterans park (formerly roadside park) and did mulching and pickup. This is one of my favorite days.
