From Officer Adam Cravens, PIO, Columbia Police Department
and Michael A. Moore, DOCJT

On September 30, 2022, Gov. Andy Beshear and the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training (DOCJT) announced that 24 law enforcement officers from agencies across the commonwealth graduated the Academy of Police Supervision (APS) Class 92. APS, also called the sergeant's academy, is a three-week, 122-hour training program targeted for newly promoted sergeants or officers who are on their agency's promotion list to become sergeants.

Among the graduates is Sgt. Evan Burton with the Columbia Police Department.

APS was launched in 2003 as one of DOCJT's illustrious leadership courses aimed at developing and shaping future and current leaders in law enforcement agencies across the commonwealth. The training program is a deep dive into how to positively influence groups of people, as well as how to apply situational leadership, demonstrate an understanding of constitutional and administrative law, emotional and social intelligence, ethical decision making, problem solving, emotional survival, and public speaking.

October is National Pedestrian Safety Month

From Erin G. Eggen

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear, whose Better Kentucky Plan includes an emphasis on highway safety, announced that October is National Pedestrian Safety Month.

"We're asking every driver to watch for pedestrians as you would if it was one of your friends or family members, and we're asking every pedestrian to be fully aware of your surroundings," said Gov. Beshear. "In any crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, the pedestrian is far more likely to be killed or injured. Practical habits, especially putting your phone down while driving or walking, can save dozens of Kentuckians' lives every year."

Photo by Robert Ellis selected for 2023 Kentucky Living Calendar

Local photographer Robert Ellis' photo "Blowing Bubbles," which he captured outside his Adair County home, has been selected for publication in Kentucky Living's 2023 Photo Contest Calendar. This year's Kentucky Living photo contest had over 2,800 submissions.

In addition, one of his photos was featured by Kentucky Living magazine with an article by Kentucky Electric Cooperatives President and CEO Chris Perry. Perry said of that Ellis photo, A Brighter Day, "Of the 2,460 submissions in Kentucky Living's 2021 Photo Contest, this one by Taylor RECC consumer-member Robert Ellis captures my sentiments this year."

You can purchase a copy of the Kentucky Living 2023 Calendar for just $9.95, which includes shipping and handling, from www.kentuckyliving.com. The 2023 calendars will ship in December, and Robert says that "Blowing Bubbles" will be displayed for the month of June, 2023.
