Online portal for donations to help flood victims From Crystal Staley/Scottie Ellis Frankfort, KY - On July 28, 2022, Gov. Andy Beshear opened an online portal for donations to flood victims at TeamEKYFloodReliefFund.ky.gov. The website will allow Kentuckians once again to help their neighbors in a time of desperate need. "I wish I could tell you why we keep getting hit here in Kentucky. I wish I could tell you why areas - where people may not have that much - continue to get hit and lose everything. I cannot give you the why, but I know what we do in response to it. And the answer is: Everything we can," Gov. Beshear said. "Today, we're giving everyone that opportunity to help through the Team Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief Fund." O-I Glass plans new facility in Bowling Green From Crystal Staley/Brandon Mattingly Frankfort, KY - On July 28, 2022, Gov. Andy Beshear announced continued growth of the commonwealth's manufacturing sector as O-I Glass Inc. will invest $239 million toward a new glass bottle manufacturing facility in Bowling Green, creating 140 high-wage jobs for Kentucky residents. The new location will provide the company with a significant increase in production capacity of glass bottles for a variety of consumer beverages with a focus on the premium spirits market. The project will be the first of its kind to use a new technology, known as Modular Advanced Glass Manufacturing Asset (MAGMA), to increase overall speed and efficiency in the manufacturing process. The Warren County operation will include renewable electricity, gas-oxy fuel and other innovative technology and processes. Production is expected to begin in mid-2024. State of Emergency declared due to severe flooding in Eastern KY By Crystal Staley/Angie Van Berkel Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear declared a State of Emergency today due to severe flooding in Eastern Kentucky. "This was a tough night and maybe an even tougher morning for so many of our residents," Gov. Beshear said. "We are currently experiencing one of the worst, most devastating flooding events in Kentucky's history. The situation is dynamic and ongoing. In most places we are not seeing receding water - in fact, in most places it has not crested yet. What we are going to see coming out of this is massive property damage and we expect loss of life. Hundreds will lose their homes. And this will be yet another event that will take not months, but years, for our families to rebuild and recover from." Unemployment lower year-to-year for June 2022 From Mike Clark/Gabe Tomlin Frankfort, KY - Unemployment rates fell in 119 counties between June 2021 and June 2022 and remained the same in Robertson County, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency of the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet.
Oldham County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the commonwealth at 3.1%. It was followed by Cumberland County, 3.2%; Scott, Spencer and Woodford counties, 3.3% each; Boone and Shelby counties, 3.4% each; and Anderson, Fayette, Henry and Washington counties, 3.5% each.
