Need help in identifying some of the people in this photo

2022-07-18 - Columbia, KY - Photo courtesy Mike Watson.
Mike writes, "We need some assistance in identifying some of the people in this photograph. The man third left from center, with his hat in hand, is Rev. Hulse, Methodist minister, and member of the well-known Hulse family of Cumberland and Adair Counties, which produced several ministers. The cornerstone says, 'Jesus Christ/The Chief/Corner Stone.'

Can anyone identify any of the others? And where was this, likely the corner stone laying ceremony of a new Methodist church building, but cannot be certain. Any help will be appreciated."

Governor: State budget funds officer training

By Kelly Foreman

Richmond, KY - The recently enacted bipartisan state budget signed by Gov. Andy Beshear allows the commonwealth to take additional steps forward to make Kentucky a leader in public safety by enhancing law enforcement training, creating safer communities and improving the safety of both law enforcement officers and Kentuckians.

"We are reaffirming our commitment to the safety of Kentucky's law enforcement community," Gov. Beshear said. "This is why we are further enhancing the commonwealth's law enforcement training abilities through the recently enacted state budget, allowing our officers to better safeguard our communities and themselves."

The Commonwealth of Kentucky budget effective July 1 provides $28,536,000 for a multipurpose training facility to be built on the Department of Criminal Justice Training's (DOCJT) Richmond campus, $2.5 million for a Western Kentucky site feasibility study for an additional law enforcement training campus and $3,737,000 to raise the annual training stipend for law enforcement officers to $4,300.

Comer applauds Veterans' Records bill

By Austin Hacker

Washington, DC - Congressman James Comer (R-KY) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the bipartisan Access for Veterans to Records Act:
"Our nation's veterans and their families have faced inexcusable wait times for records that are necessary to obtain critical services because federal bureaucrats didn't show up to work in-person. The Access for Veterans to Records Act makes necessary reforms to modernize the process for obtaining veterans records and requires federal workers to work in-person to eliminate the backlog. I thank Representative Keller for his tireless work on behalf of our nation's brave veterans and urge the Senate to take up this bill immediately to provide relief to those who served and defended the United States," said Congressman Comer.
The Access for Veterans to Records Act will help provide resources to address the veterans' records requests backlog at the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC). NPRC--which operates within the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)--houses records that are essential for veterans to receive service-related benefits, including medical treatment, unemployment assistance, and emergency housing services.

Phillip Coffey - Mercifully Bought

By Phillip Coffey

Fancy me meeting you here old memories under the shade of this seasoned silver maple.
Visit here quite often in my sweetened daydreaming from the age of simplicity-'well I be.'
Crowded in the noon sun with only you and me-not room for others, suffice it to say.
Civility is long overdue, may be repetitious, but much is deplorable in our behavior-please, no more.

Late in the evening with the sun near the horizon, elongated shadows-little illuminated glow.
Will hardships and tragic stories soon arrive simultaneously - squash the eventuality.
Please old false prophet, steadfastly well hidden in the dark shadows among unbelievers
Find a shortened, weakened sapling with your hidden agenda-contemptible thief.

So many downcast and sorrowful among the cast of the multitude - requiring much rest.
Give me only love and contentment from the Master, sacrificial lamb-mercifully bought.
