Eloise Lawless Owens, 79, Russell County, KY Eloise Lawless Owens, of Russell Springs, KY passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022 in Jamestown. She was 79 years of age. She was born September 1, 1942, in the Mt. Eden Community, daughter of the late Frank and Ila Emerson Lawless. She was the owner and operator of Eloise's Wallpaper and Paint for over 40 years. Eloise enjoyed her work, going to church activities and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church. KSP report on fatal logging accident By Trooper Jonathan Houk Kentucky State Police Post 15 Troopers responded with the Adair County Sheriff's Office to a logging accident on Tower Road in Adair County. Preliminary investigation revealed that Tony Burton, age 53 of Columbia, had been using a farm tractor to maneuver timber. While operating the tractor, Mr. Burton overturned the tractor into a deep ravine causing him to become entrapped underneath the tractor. Mr. Burton was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Adair County Coroner. KSP was assisted and the scene by Adair County Sheriff's Office as well as Adair County Fire and EMS. Columbia moves from Abnormally Dry to Moderate Drought Conditions for Columbia worsened from Abnormally Dry (D0) to Moderate Drought (D1), according to this week's U.S. Drought Monitor from the National Integrated Drought Information System. The Climate Prediction Center's July Drought Outlook, which was released on June 30, 2022, had predicted that drought conditions would not develop in July. Logging Accident results in death of Adair man A logging accident off Tower Road on Hwy 206 has taken the life on an Adair County man. 53-year-old Tony Burton was using a tractor to remove timber Wednesday. He was found dead, pinned underneath the overturned tractor, by Adair County Sheriff Josh Brockman. A Heat Advisory remains in effect today The National Weather Service in Louisville, KY, has issued a Heat Advisory from 11amCT to 7pmCT for Thursday, July 7, 2022, for an area of Kentucky that includes Adair and all surrounding counties. Heat index values up to 105F are expected. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
