Hardin Planetarium to livestream James Webb Telescope images

Western Kentucky University's Hardin Planetarium will host a free, public watch party at 9:30amCT on July 12, 2022, for NASA's release of the first science images from the James Webb Space Telescope.

The event is open to all interested parties, with the planetarium's Star Chamber doors opening at 8:45amCT, and the NASA livestream beginning at 9:30amCT. The one-hour livestream will include many full-color images, along with some interpretation from NASA subject matter experts.

This presentation will prepare audiences for a full infrared astronomy exploration event hosted by the planetarium at 1 p.m. August 13. The August event will include educational activities for all ages with chances to win Webb Telescope themed prizes like bookmarks and posters.

Seven to be inducted into LWC Athletics Hall of Fame

Seven individuals are set to be inducted into the Lindsey Wilson College Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining Center.

Lindsey Wilson will honor two classes this year, the 20th and 21st classes, after last year's ceremony was postponed due to COVID-19.

Krista Burton, Terran Duncan, and Tyler Sharpe are set to be enshrined as the 20th class of the LWC Athletics Hall of Fame. Debbie McGuinness, Gavin Oldham, Hishamar Falconer and Beth Boisvert will all represent this year's class.

Michelle Newton Yates, 54, Campbellsville, KY (1967-2022)

Michelle Newton Yates of Campbellsville passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2022. She was 54 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 11amET on Monday, July 4, 2022 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Ave., Campbellsville, KY, officiated by Rev. Michael Gribbins. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery.

Visitation is requested from 5pmET until 8pmET on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home.

Seussical performances on June 30, July 1 and July 3

IMAGINE! Youth Theatre will produce Seussical which has become one of the most performed shows in America since its Broadway debut in 2000. With music and lyrics by Tony Award winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, this play brings some of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters to life including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, & lazy Mayzie.

Performances of Seussical will take place June 30 & July 1 at 7pmCT and July 3 at 2pmCT in V.P. Henry Auditorium, located inside the L.R. McDonald Administration Building on the Campus of Lindsey Wilson College.

Dorothy Jean Shell Boston, Green County, KY (1954-2022)

Dorothy Jean Shell Boston of Greensburg, KY, daughter of the late James Luther Shell and Blanche Marie Shell, departed this life on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at her home. She was 67 years, 9 months, and 21 days of age.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ, was of the Baptist Faith and was a homemaker.

Tips for a safer Fourth of July

It's that time of year when Americans everywhere will be celebrating the Fourth of July holiday with family, friends, and fireworks. Unfortunately, over the past 15 years, there has been an increase in the number of people injured during this festive time.

A new report by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) finds a significant upward trend in fireworks-related injuries. Between 2006 and 2021, injuries with fireworks climbed 25% in the U.S., according to CPSC estimates.

Last year, at least nine people died, and an estimated 11,500 were injured in incidents involving fireworks.

Ralph Douglas Groce, 72, Cumberland County, KY

Ralph Douglas Groce, of Burkesville, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022, having attained the age of 72 years.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 4, 2022 at 6pm. The family will receive friends from 4-6pmCT at the funeral home.

Third annual Paint The Town will be July 27-29

The City of Columbia is happy to announce their third annual "Paint The Town" event coming up July 27-29, with all artwork to be completed by the weekend of July 30. "We encourage everyone to come to this community event for our town. We look forward to seeing everyone on the square," said Mayor Pamela Hoots.

Brad joined First & Farmers National Bank in June 2017 as Columbia Market's Senior Lender. Prior to joining First & Farmers, Brad served as Market President for PBI's Greensburg location. He currently serves on the bank's Executive Loan Committee, Managed Assets Committee, and chairs the Columbia Market Senior Loan Committee.

CPD: HIDTA investigation leads to arrests

On Wednesday, June 22, 2022, the Columbia area HIDTA Office executed a search warrant after an ongoing investigation in Metcalfe County.

Upon search, investigators located a large quantity of methamphetamine, marijuana, and prescription pills. During the search, a large quantity of ammunition, a 9mm hand gun, and a large quantity of US currency were also located.
