Tammy Stotts introduced Stephen Baker at banquet

By Tammy Stotts

I am honored to have been asked to present the Columbia Adair County Chamber 2022 award for Volunteer of the Year to Steven Baker.

Steven is a dear friend, family member and also works for me at Southern Nest Realty as an Apprentice Auctioneer. Most everyone knows Steven as a funny guy from his comical live weather remotes to his swimsuit modeling in Cancun Mexico. Steven is also known for his big heart and generous spirit. He loves his community and is always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. He is an all around great guy.

Rose Anderson, 93, Cumberland County, KY (1928-2022)

Rose Anderson, age 93, died on Thursday, June 23, 2022, in Burkesville, Kentucky. She was born in the community of Little Renox on September 27, 1928, the third of three children, to Ritchie and Mabel Allen Cole.

She was a proud member of the Burkesville High School Class of 1946, always planning the next reunion and enjoying catching up with her classmates. She enjoyed traveling with her family, either by car in the early days or by bus once she retired. She loved to crochet and knit, but really embraced quilting later in life, having been an active member of the local Quilt Guild and having made each of her grandchildren a quilt for a wedding present. She loved to cook and bake, especially the annual Southern Living Holiday Cake, which her family looked forward to each year.

Carol Perkins: Jinxed or Careless

Previous Column: Father's Day

By Carol Perkins

If there is such a thing as being jinxed, I think I must be. I'm embarrassed to tell of other weird things that have happened to me, but I can't keep from sharing.

I am one who keeps "stuff" around me with the intention of moving. My under-the-counter bike was against my desk to the right of my computer. It was once under my computer, but I quickly figured out that pedaling and typing simultaneously was impossible. As I was standing on my tiptoes, adding a few books to the shelf above the desk and leaning over this machine, I never thought I was in danger. When I put my toes down, I must have leaned my left leg into the metal part of the pedal. Suddenly, the pain shot through my body like I had been hit with an arrow (as if I know what that feels like) and blood ran down my leg. I yelled for Guy.
