Kaluau New Program Home Run Leader; Softball Sweeps Bethel By Christopher Coombs Makea-Al Kaluau vaulted herself to the top of the history book with a two-run home run in the first contest, giving her 48 career blasts and the title of LWC's softball's all-time home run leader. The No. 17-ranked softball team picked up two wins on Saturday afternoon at Sparks Park to cap off Mid-South Conference regular-season play with a clean sweep of Bethel (Tenn.). Lindsey Wilson used a walk-off three-run home run from Ellie Derrick in the eighth inning to claim game one before putting together the most runs in an inning this season in game two with 13 to complete the sweep. The Blue Raiders claimed game one 10-7 before taking game two with a 13-0 result. LWC wraps up competition at USA Archery Outdoor Regional Williamsburg, KY - The Lindsey Wilson archery team wrapped up competition at the USA Archery Outdoor Regional on Friday afternoon at the UC Sports Complex. The Blue Raiders racked up 19 top-4 podium finishes at the event with the men's recurve team and men's bowhunter team sitting atop the podium in first place. Upon the completion of the event, T Sanchez (recurve), Jacob Cook (barebow), Sarah McCarthy (barebow), and Wyatt Burtts earned All-Region honors. Chagy the Clown at Columbia Baptist Church for Easter program By Mark Fudge Chagy the Clown presented an Easter message at the Columbia Baptist Church Friday night prior to the church's annual Easter Egg Hunt. Approximately 200 people turned out for the program. The Columbia Baptist Church would like to thank all the businesses and individuals that donated prizes for this year's Easter egg hunt. Chagy has traveled all over the world delivering his message that clowns bring laughter to people's lives but Jesus brings joy to people's lives. Chagy has shared the gospel in numerous countries and plans a trip to Ukraine in the next few weeks. Columbia Baptist Church will host sunrise services Sunday morning at 6:30amCT, followed by breakfast and regular worship at 9amCT. Dyer, Tweedy graduate basic training By Michael A. Moore Richmond, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear and the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training (DOCJT) announced on Friday that law enforcement officers from agencies across the state have graduated the basic training academy. Among the 27 recruits who completed their training were Robert L. Dyer with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office and Hunter L. Tweedy with the Burkesville Police Department. "We congratulate these officers and deputies on their accomplishment," Gov. Beshear said. "We send them our support for the work they will do in the communities they serve." CPD: Traffic stop leads to trafficking arrest By Officer Adam Cravens, PIO Columbia Police Department On Friday afternoon, April 15, 2022, the Columbia Police Department initiated a traffic stop on Greensburg Street near the intersection of High Street. Upon making contact with the driver, officers could detect a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. K9 Unit Rowdy was utilized, and after alerting on the vehicle, officers searched the car, locating marijuana, 10 ounces of suspected methamphetamine and a 9mm handgun within the vehicle.
