Phillip Coffey - Harvesting

HARVESTING by Phillip Coffey
Picked up his favorite pen in a high fevered pitch - not running
To try to express what was the utmost he had 'up and learned'
From throwing horseshoes, few ringers-or digging in rocky ditches
One was fun in his exclaiming, the other harsh with distaining.

His ole hide exposed is wrinkled, plainly - that is not deceiving.
But hurting very much inside with all the hurt that he is seeing
Among the innocent children, adolescent, adults - worn out old people
Picked up his grubbing hoe, shovel, 'took off' - Autumn harvesting for many.
