Letter: pets in time of emergency

Donna Rieder writes:
Just an addition to your pet preparedness (September is national emergency preparedness month), people should consider having their pets microchipped!

It's inexpensive, and all vets and shelters have scanners. If a pet has a microchip, they can quickly know the owners name and address.

The No. 13-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball team (12-3, 5-1 Mid-South Conference) prepares for a three-game road trip this week starting off with a stop at Freed-Hardeman (TN) Tuesday evening at 6pmCT at FHU Sports Center.

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - Following the latest guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's amended authorization for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, Gov. Andy Beshear said today that his administration recommends the following Kentuckians who received a Pfizer vaccine series get a booster six months after their second shot:
  • Individuals 65 and older;
  • Those living in a long-term care facility;
  • People 18 to 64 who have a medical condition that increases their risk of severe COVID-19 infection - examples of these include diabetes, heart, kidney or lung disease, or a BMI greater than 25; or
  • People 18 to 64 who are likely to get exposed at their place of work - examples of high-risk work environments include health care and education.
"What I want to do is clear up any confusion that's out there and let you know who can get the boosters," said Gov. Beshear. "If you are eligible, go get them. There are plenty of vaccine doses out there."

Under conviction about the vaccine, how to find it

By Linda Waggener

Tragically, a coworker of my sister's in Glasgow died from COVID-19 this weekend - a young man in the prime of life, strong and healthy before he got the virus.

She is past recommending and is in the throes of pressuring her young adult son to get the vaccine, right now, this instant. He's open to it, under conviction as we say in church, still hesitant, doesn't know where to find it so he doesn't have to miss work.

Asking if I know who is giving it, we scrolled down CM headlines to the clickable link posted daily: "Find your vaccination site - Visit vaccines.gov or call 1-800-232-0233 now". It gives a clickable search function to find the exact local locations. There's also the 800 number for all who have no computer.
