Citicar: The late 70s electric car

2021-09-08 - Somewhere in Ohio - Photo by Tom Waggener.
Spotted somewhere along the Ohio to Erie bike trail. Wikipedia says of The CitiCar, it "was an electric car produced from 1974 to 1977 by Sebring, Florida-based Sebring-Vanguard, Inc. After being bought out by Commuter Vehicles, Inc, Sebring-Vanguard produced the similar Comuta-Car and Comuta-Van from 1979 to 1982. Accounting for all CitiCar variants, a total of 4,444 units were produced up to 1979, the most since 1945 for an electric car assembled in North America until surpassed by the Tesla Model S."

Arnold home was first the Samuel Robertson House

By Linda Waggener

On assignment for Mike Watson, president of the Adair Heritage Association, I visited with John and Missy Arnold on their porch overlooking the peaceful, downtown Columbia Roseland Plantation.

It's hard to travel Hurt Street without wondering who has preserved the acres of green space that horses, cats and dogs enjoy, and wonder at the historic brick home.

John and his sister Sara Sproles grew up there thanks to their parents, Bernice Waggener Arnold and Russell Arnold, who taught them of its history. The Samuel Robertson House was built between 1812 and 1814 before the Civil War. It was a hospital and then a school - and it was a stop for escaping slaves during the days of the Underground Railroad.

Emergency preparedness: Your Pets

From Emory Kidd, Director
Metcalfe County Emergency Management

We've mentioned pets several times already since, after all, they are members of the family.

Do you have carriers, extra food and supplies and information on their records and such?

If they will tolerate a collar, they should be wearing one, consider one that has your name and information woven into it, rather than a tag that can be easily lost.

Have good close-up photos of them as well, should you have to shelter separately from them you need a way to show which pet is yours.

Second service begins Sunday at Columbia UMC

By Doug Beard,
Chairman, Columbia UMC Church Council

I appreciate being a member of the United Methodist Church. I have been since being baptized and confirming my vows of commitment to the church in 1968.

The United Methodist Church was created in 1968, but Methodism traces its beginning to the days of John and Charles Wesley who initiated the mission of the Methodist movement that was born from a small student group in England at Oxford.
