Gov. Beshear updates Kentuckians on COVID-19 vaccinations

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - On Tuesday, Gov. Andy Beshear announced 1,732,791 Kentuckians have received at least their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

"Every day, we get a step closer to reaching the 2.5 million-vaccine Team Kentucky Vaccination Challenge and ending this pandemic once and for all," said Gov. Beshear. "There are now more options than ever for you to sign up for your shot of hope. It's fast, it's easy and it will help us save lives and get back to more of the activities we've missed over the past year."

Kentuckians should visit vaccinemap.ky.gov to find a COVID-19 vaccination site near them.

Gov. Beshear Visits UPS Vaccine Distribution Hub
As all eyes fall on the commonwealth for the 147th running of the Kentucky Derby, today, Gov. Beshear visited the main UPS global air hub to highlight the role Kentuckians are playing in distributing coronavirus vaccines throughout the nation to save lives and end the pandemic.

The Governor, joined by leaders at UPS including David Quintilio, senior vice president of UPS Healthcare, visited Worldport Core, where millions of packages are sorted on the way to their final destinations, the freight facility and the Healthcare Command Center, where UPS tracks and monitors vaccine shipments, including the temperature and location.

Photos from 2021 Plow Day at Homeplace on Green River

Click headline for photos from Spring Plow Day.

By Lyn Stanton

At Homeplace on Green River, we were honored to hold Spring Plow Day on Saturday, April 24, 2021. While the rain did reduce the festivities slightly, it couldn't dampen our spirits!

In the petting zoo area, visitors got to see shaggy highland cattle, exotic peacocks, miniature chickens, and hedgehogs, pet a baby cow, feed some adorable goats and more. Children got to run through our hay maze in the bottom of the bank barn, and try their hand on the ceramicist David Waltz's potters wheel.

There were bunches of great vendors selling everything from cute crocheted stuffies, to deer antler handle knives, to gorgeous jewelry, to heavenly smelling hand-made candles, to invigorating sugar facial scrubs. Folks learned all about the practice of lard rendering from Mr. Kent Penick, about our favorite little buzzy pollinators from the Green River Bee Keepers, and about the culture and practices of Native Peoples from Ms. Darlene Campbell.

Letter: So proud of our Elayna!

Carole Thomas writes:
My granddaughter, Elayna Keltner, made headlines last week with the delivery of her "birthday gifts" to the Green River Animal Shelter! Our precious Elayna has been in love with animals her entire eight years of life. She has a loving spirit toward every animal she sees. When she made the request that "her" birthday gifts be something for the animals in the Shelter, it confirmed that this little girl is indeed an angel.

To Elayna: we could be no prouder of you! You are specially made to care for God's creations. I believe that one day you will be in the official capacity to provide care to animals as a veterinarian. I'm behind you all the way in whatever your life choice will be."
Elayna is the daughter of Ethan and Emily Keltner. Little brothers are Noah and Levi. Grands are James and Carole Thomas, Mark and Carol Klingburg.
