Shawn:
Q: Kentucky and Tennessee COVID-19 deaths are almost identical. Yet Tennessee has tested over 100,000, while Kentucky test numbers are somewhere around 33,000. Why has Tennessee been able to test three times the number of cases as Kentucky, and are our total numbers likely very similar to Tennessee's given the testing differentials?

Minton: Task Forces will plan reopening of court services

By Leigh Anne Hiatt

Frankfort, KY - Chief Justice of Kentucky John D. Minton Jr. announced today that he has created three task forces to plan how courts across the state will resume limited in-person services.

"As Kentucky begins to gradually reopen business, the courts must prepare to do the same," Chief Justice Minton said in an email to the justices, judges, circuit court clerks and court personnel who serve the Judicial Branch. "Although in-person services are suspended until May 31, our next priority is a reopening plan that respects social distancing while allowing greater access to the courts. Please note that this will be a limited, phased approach to ensure the health and safety of our court family and the public."

During the pandemic state of emergency, court operations are being guided by Administrative Order 2020-28, which remains in effect through May 31, 2020.

Chief Justice Minton has formed three task forces, one each for Circuit, Family and District courts.

Kentucky Color: A pic by George

By Billy Joe Fudge

Comments re: A fine place to rest

This picture is most assuredly a Black Rhinoceros, and reminds me of a pic by George Kolben-"whatshisname"-schlag, taken a few years ago, of a Hackberry roaming around Homeplace on Green River masquerading as an African Elephant!

Adair Co. 4-H Grab & Go Educational Kit announcement

By Tony Rose, Adair County Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development
Adair County Extension Service

First, we want to thank all those who have participated in the Grab & Go Educational Kits. They have been a big hit. We would also love to see more pictures of the youth using the kits. We are planning to do the weekly kits for two more weeks.

When school is officially out, we are going to switch how we do the kits. After the next two weeks, we will start doing educational kits around 4-H projects that can be entered in the Project Fair at the end of July.

The first sign up will be for several kits that will be available in the middle to end of May. This is the same sign up that we posted last week, with an extended sign-up time frame, so if you have already signed up, there is no need to sign up again. These kits are for youth ages 9-18. We are doing sign-ups to make sure we have enough supplies, because we have to order many of the supplies that we do not have on hand.

We will continue to take sign-ups until Wednesday, May 6, 2020, for this first sign up. These kits will contain items to help complete the fair projects. Please complete this survey to sign up for kits: uky.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form.

Potential Adair Co. addition to Operation American Resolve

By Mike Keltner, Director
Adair County Emergency Management

An out of county friend to our community has reported a potential late addition to the flight plan of Operation American Resolve on Friday, May 1st, 2020.

As part of Operation American Resolve, the Kentucky Air National Guard will potentially fly over a portion of Columbia and Summit Manor Nursing Home at around 3:15-3:30pmCT on Friday afternoon, May 1, 2020, using a pair of Lockheed C-130 Hercules turboprop transport aircraft.

The flight will cross a large portion of Kentucky and, according to the air guard, is part of a nationwide salute to all those supporting the COVID-19 response efforts.

As we all know weather, route and timing could be altered but if you are available it would be worth keeping an eye on the sky over Columbia in that time frame.

Beshear: Reopen smartest, not fastest

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - On Thursday, Gov. Andy Beshear reminded Kentuckians that we need to be the smartest, not the fastest, in reopening our economy in order to defeat the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) without causing a spike of cases in the commonwealth.

He announced additional testing sites and updated Kentuckians on N95 mask decontamination, unemployment insurance payments, the state budget and new efforts to support working families.

"You, the citizens of the commonwealth of Kentucky, are taking on a pandemic that happens once in every 100 years, and while we have lost too many, you are doing something this world has never seen and not just flattening, but plateauing the curve here in Kentucky," said Gov. Beshear. "Your actions every day are saving lives. And as we go to make a slow, gradual transition from healthy at home to healthy at work, we need you now more than ever to be bought in and to be committed and to make sure that we do what it takes to protect one another."
