Charles Lenwood Gore, 74, Russell Springs, KY (1944-2018) He was a longtime business owner of Hopper Drug Store in Russell Springs, KY. Kleckler named 2018 AFCA NAIA Assistant Coach of the Year By Chris Wells Lindsey Wilson football defensive coordinator Phil Kleckler has been named the 2018 American Football Coaches Association NAIA Assistant Coach of the Year, AFCA officials announced on Tuesday. Kleckler was selected as the NAIA's top assistant coach from a pool of three finalists. The AFCA Assistant Coach of the Year Committee selects one assistant coach from each division -- the Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, NCAA Division II and Division III and the NAIA -- for the annual honor. "I am humbled and honored to have been chosen by the AFCA for the Assistant Coach of the Year award for the NAIA," Kleckler said. An abandoned farm pond in GRL-WMA By Wayne Baxter One year ago (Nov 28, 2017), I came upon this small pond in the Green River Lake Wildlife Management Area. It had been partly drained when it became government property in the late Sixties, but still holds a nice pool of clear water. All the trees in the area, except one large oak, looked to be less than 50 years old. A 1953 Topography map shows it to have been in a large area of cleared farm land.
